Refactoring C# Code Using Visual Studio
2005
Refactoring C# Code Using Visual Studio
2005
08/05/2004 03:28 AMI'd bet you would agree that a significant part of any engineer's day
is spent re-working existing code to become in some way 'better.' In
many cases, 'better code' is a subjective term, but some common
improvements include: adhering to OO-best practices, increasing type
safety, improving performance, and increasing code readability and
maintainability.
Refactoring is a formal and mechanical process, used to modify
existing code in such a way that it does indeed become 'better' while
preserving the program's intended functionality. In addition to
improving a program's overall design, the refactoring process tends to
yield code which is far easier to maintain and extend in the long
run.

MSDN Code Center and Downloads Updates
MSDN Code Center and Downloads Updates
12/08/2003 12:06 AMIn addition to improving the UI and centralizing the download and code
sample content by topic into the library, this project also helped us
clean-up our back-end content management system for downloads and code
samples by reducing redundant production work, removing an outdated
publishing tool, and rebuilding an infrastructure that previously
didn't scale to our needs.
The new download management system now allows us to store our download
data and bits in a scalable server environment with a distributed
architecture. The new system includes a management and publishing tool
which is used to submit, attribute, and publish the download or sample
in a consistent way, thus providing us with the ability to more easily
localize our downloads, show the most popular downloads, to query by
topic or owner or other attributes, and to ensure that all downloads
are published consistently across the microsoft.com domain—making it
easier for you, our customers, to locate the information you are
looking for.
