Microsoft's Groovy Special Ed Mice
04/09/2004 03:55 PMJOEL JOHNSON -- Microsoft has three new special-edition wireless
optical mice, designed to appeal to those that find current mouse
styling (or good taste) boring. Styles include the 'Groovy,'
'Immersion,' and the 'Night Vision,' but fear not: Microsoft is asking
users to vote for future special-edition finishes. Actually, go
ahead...

Microsoft's New Philippe Starck Mice

Microsoft tries their hand
at peripherale couture with a new mouse designed by industrial
designer Philippe Starck, reminiscent of the hemispheres of a brain,
they say. To me, it recalls the smooth contours and glowing comfort of
... the mouse. Still, I give Microsoft room to get as fruity as they
want -- their mice have been my go-to interface pucks for years.
Microsoft has also added a few new Special Edition finishes to
their Wireless Optical and IntelliMouse Explorer lines. Since when is
nice product design "performance art," though?

So this is really old news, but I thought it was
double-cool. Not only do I like the idea of mice shape "wine-tasting
sessions" to determine the best shape, but isn't it amusing how close
the first Macintosh and Lisa computers came to having two-button mice?
Think of the world we'd live in if Macs had two-button mice. Would
there even be something to troll about on Slashdot?!
Oh, right. Linux sucks. (Thanks, Ilostyouremail!)

Tom's Hardware has an almost
painfully in-depth profile of a handful of new mice from Logitech,
including the corded MX510 "performance mouse," covered in a blue
holographic sheen -- designed to appeal to the gaming crowd with its
light weight and quick response -- and the 'Click' series [pictured],
a new line of cordless mice that now include horizontal tilt motion on
the scroll wheels, like the latest mice from Microsoft. Logitech has
always made a good interface puck, and if you'd like to catch a sneak
peak at the insides of their Swiss development laboratories, don't
miss this article. Of course, if you just wanted to know about the
mice, I pretty much just took care of you.
