MacCentral - Since Mac OS X v10.2's release, Apple has promoted a zero-configuration networking technology it calls Rendezvous. Now Apple is further promoting the standard more with the release of Rendezvous technology for Java clients, POSIX platforms including Linux, Solaris and FreeBSD, and a "technology preview" for Windows. Global market intelligence and advisory firm IDC released its data on shipments of personal computers in the United States for the second quarter of 2004. Apple ranks fifth on the list with a total of 495,000 CPU units shipped, or about 3.7 of the market -- trailing Dell, HP, Gateway and IBM.
