MacCentral - Apple Computer Inc. reported on Wednesday a net profit of $46 million for the company's second quarter ended March 27, 2004. In the quarter, Apple shipped 749 thousand Macintosh units and 807 thousand iPods, representing a 5 percent increase in CPU units and a 909 percent increase in iPods over the year-ago quarter.

Apple Computer on Wednesday reported a profit of US$290 million for the fiscal second-quarter of 2005. The company said that 1,070,000 Macintosh units and 5,311,000 iPods were shipped during the quarter, which ended March 26, 2005. This represents a 43 percent increase in CPU units and a 558 percent increase in iPods over the year-ago quarter.

Apple has posted its financials for its fiscal fourth quarter ended September 27. For the quarter, Apple posted a profit of $44 million dollars, or 12 cents per share. This compares to a loss of $45 million one year ago. Revenues were up 19% to $1.715 billion, with a gross margin of 26.6%. During the quarter, Apple shipped 787 thousand Macs as well as 336 thousand iPods.

Apple has announced its earnings for the for the fiscal year first quarter. For the quarter ended December 27, 2003 Apple posted a profit of $63 million or $.17 per diluted share. This compares to a loss of $8 million or $.02 per share in the year-ago quarter. Analysts were expecting $.14 per share profit. Revenue for the quarter was a four year high of just over $2 billion, which is up 36% from a year ago. "It was an outstanding quarter for Apple, with double-digit unit and revenue growth and over 730,000 iPods sold," said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. "We’re kicking off 2004 with strong momentum, especially for Mac OS X, which is now used by almost 40 percent of our installed base, iPod and the iTunes Music Store, which has a 70 percent share of the legal music download market."

MacCentral - Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide marketing, Phil Schiller, took a cue from his boss, CEO Steve Jobs, as he unveiled one more thing at the end of his keynote to kick off this week's Apple Expo in Paris: an iMac G5 that includes the entire system inside a 17- or 20-inch LCD screen. Continuing the all-in-one theme that started with the original CRT iMac, the G5 edition features a new industrial design that does away with the hemispherical base of the previous generation all together. Schiller said that the new iMacs will be available in mid-September.

MacCentral - Apple Computer Inc. on Tuesday announced that the US version of its iTunes Music Store now has over one million songs in its download catalog. Apple said that it's the first commercial online music download service to offer a million song catalog. That catalog includes offerings from all five major commercial record labels and more than 600 independent labels. Apple claims more than 70 percent market share of legal downloads for singles and albums.

MacCentral - Looks like Mac OS X v10.3 "Panther" is getting one more small tweak before Mac OS X v10.4 "Tiger" hits store shelves on April 29, 2005. On Friday Apple released Mac OS X v10.3.9, an update that "delivers overall improved compatibility and reliability" for all users. It's available for download through the Software Update system preferences pane and is also available for download from Apple's Web site.
