Samsung's new Palm smartphone

Samsung's new Palm smartphone 03/13/2003 12:53 PM

samsungi500.jpgFirst smartphone running Palm's new OS 5. The SGH-i500 from Samsung has a clamshell design, a 65,000 color screen, 32MB of RAM, a built-in digital camera, and connects to GSM networks for voice and GPRS for data. The phone itself is nothing much to look at (just look at the keypad), but we hear good things about Palm OS 5.

Samsung's i600 Smartphone out today 11/10/2003 11:04 PM
Not that this news is taking anyone by surprise, but Verizon officially started offering Samsung's i600 Smartphone today. The SCH-i600 (or the SPH-i600, believe it or not Microsoft's press release and Verizon's website actually differ on what it's called) is the second cellphone running Microsoft's Smartphone operating system to become available in the US, and has a 65,000 color screen, a 200MHz processor, 32MB of RAM, but no built-in digital camera or Bluetooth. Apparently Samsung's new i600 Smartphone, which Verizon just introduced on Monday, will work with SDIO expansion cards. This means you'll be able to easily add WiFi, Bluetooth, or GPS to the phone. This might not sound like a big deal at first, but you'd be surprised at how much of a hassle it is to find a cellphone that can have WiFi added to it. Read...

Samsung's SPH-i600 cellphone is finally coming out. The phone, which will be the second running Microsoft's Smartphone operating system to be released in the States, has turned up on Verizon's website. No built-in digital camera or Bluetooth and it runs the older 2002 version of the Smartphone operating system, but it does have a 65,000 color display, a 200MHz processor, 32MB of RAM, and is "GPS position location enabled." Samsung's new camcorder phone 11/06/2003 03:00 AM
Just got word of a new camcorder phone from Samsung that can record up to two hours of video. But it gets even better. The SCH-V410 can also double as a remote control for a TV or DVD player, take still digital pictures (with flash), and play music stored on it without having to open up the phone. It also has a 262,000 color internal LCD screen, an external OLED screen, and support for video-on-demand services. The V410 is just for the South Korean market, but Samsung is planning to make a PCS version of it called the SPH-V4300 which could conceivably be sold here in the US....

Samsung's First Photo Printer

Samsung's First Photo Printer 06/24/2005 04:00 PM

1560.jpgIt's so slow today that we're reduced to writing about printers. The Samsung SPP-2040 and SPP-2020 are thermal transfer printers that firmly place the Korean giant among such greats as Lexmark and HP. These 1-photo-per-minute printers don't use inkjets. Instead, the heads burn a thin film of color for waterproof and age-proof—call me in 50 years, Samsung, and we'll see how age-proof they are—prints.

They're pricey, at least in the UK, in the $300-$400 range, I'll reckon. And they're shiny and silver. We also didn't write the nasty headline you'll find below. We would have used something much more tasteless.

Samsung's VC-RP30W Robotic Vacuum

Samsung's VC-RP30W Robotic Vacuum 12/02/2003 12:23 AM
Several News agencies such as MobileMag have declared: Samsung Unveils High-tech Robot Vacuum Cleaner Samsung's robotic vacuum cleaner, identified as VC-RP30W, vacuums your house the smart way: it makes a 3D map and knows which areas of your house needs cleaning. This is contrary to a recent article that says mapping less is better. This is also contrary to popular robotic vacuums that just bounce around your house unwittingly with hopes of eventually vacuuming all the floor. This robot is no dummy. The battery life lasts about 50 minutes a charge and when the battery gets low, it goes back automatically to the charging station for a recharge. You can program it to your desired start times to start when you're away, and you can even monitor the vacuum from work doing its work with an internet connection and its internal camera. With all this robotic intelligence and obvious great design and crafting, you can guess why there's no mention of price or availability yet, but with camera, internet connection, charging station, etc, I don't expect it to be as cheap as a Roomba but at least it's got to be some kind of world's first great vacuum cleaning robot for Samsung!

Samsung's Olympic Gold Phones

Samsung's Olympic Gold Phones 08/09/2004 07:27 AM

samsung_gold_oly.jpg imageTo commemorate the Olympic Games, sponsor Samsung Electronics has released 1000 special edition "Gold Premium Phones" (models SCH-E470, SPH-E3200, and SPH-E3250) and auctioned them online. The first lot of six phones has been bid up to over one million won (around $12,000). The phones themselves are not actually gold, except for a rim around the LCD monitor, but do have the emblem of the Athens Olympics inscribed as well as special serial numbers that make them worth money in the increasingly popular world of cell phone collectables.

All proceeds of the auctions are to be given to an Olympic athlete who doesn't get a medal but still leaves a "great impression or delivers deep emotions" to the Koreans, who will vote for their favorite loser online.

samsungst-5.jpg imageGood morning, friends. I had a great time in Virginia this weekend, although as is typical at a LAN I played videogames for about 2 hours and drank for about 8 each day (not that this is necessarily in error). That being said, I'm glad to be back, so I can talk about things like this update to the Samsung YP-T5 "World's Smallest" YP-T5 flash player, the YP-ST5. Although the form factor is pretty much the same, the battery life has been bumped from 8 hours of playback to 20, USB 2.0 support is in, and an updated firmware (around August or so) will add OGG Vorbis support.

Also, reheated fried calamari has the delicate taste and texture of a cockring. Take the necessary flavor precautions.

imageSamsung is the latest company to use gold and diamonds on a piece of electronics, this time coming on the "YP-W3L." It's somewhat difficult to tell where the gold and diamonds are on the thing, but frankly, I like it more that way. Samsung didn't really skimp on the features, either: it's probably one of the first mainstream players I've seen that does MP3, WMA, Ogg Vorbis, WAV and ASF. Not that anyone actually uses ASF, but you know what I mean. There's an FM radio somewhere in there too. Available up to 1GB, according to infoSyncworld.
