Thanks <b>Steven Bink</b> for the heads up on this.. Seems Bink has some sort of exclusive on 2 new XP clients, read on!

Microsoft is developing 2 new "Server Centric Computing Clients" these clients are based on windows XP, so these will be "thin" clients for Terminal server purposes.

Microsoft wants to make Windows the platform of choice for server centric computing by offering new feature rich Windows SKUs for our enterprise and academic customers by providing management and servicing features parity with Windows XP Pro. These clients will offer innovative alternative to the traditional desktop for legacy PCs, low-end PCs, thin client devices and task workers.

Customers complain that Windows XP Pro too expensive for Structured Task Workers. Other request are:<ul><li>Need of one set of security, manageability & serviceability technologies across all clients</li>
<li>Disparity of HW requires broad driver support</li>
<li>Remote Bootable (network / diskless)</li>
<li>3rd Party Anti-Virus & Management support</li>
<li>Easy Shell Lock DownSmart App Install BlockingCodename</li></ul> News source: Bink.nu for the rest of the article.

NewsGator Offering in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 Enables Users to Read Selected Content, or Watch On-Demand Video Content

DENVER, CO - June 4, 2004 - Today, NewsGator Technologies announced that the recently launched NewsGator Media Edition is featured in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004's "Online Spotlight," an online guide created specifically for Media Center Edition PC customers that offers a central location for them to find the latest third-party services and software, such as music, movie trailers, news updates and even Karaoke.

NewsGator provides a mechanism for Media Center PC users to easily find NewsGator software and services online, without having to separately download anything from the NewsGator web site. Both text and multimedia content is supported, and information that has not already been viewed on another device can be displayed by synchronizing user subscriptions with NewsGator Online Services.

"We're excited to be included in Online Spotlight - this will dramatically increase our visibility to the many thousands of Media Center PC users," said Greg Reinacker, President & Founder of NewsGator Technologies.

NewsGator Media Center Edition is included as part of NewsGator Online Services. NewsGator Online Services includes three other content reader editions, which allow users to read content they have subscribed to from any web browser (with Web Edition), any email client (with POP Edition), and from a mobile wireless device (with Mobile Edition), which is a powerful feature for road warriors who use mobile devices to access information while on the road. The service also provides exclusive, subscriber-only content to its subscribers, as well as the ability to search for content that matches a specific keyword or URL, and return that content in a feed. NewsGator Online Services pricing starts at $5.95/month per user.

"Media Center PCs allow consumers to have faster and more efficient access to all of their favorite digital content when, where, and how they want," said Brad Brooks, Director of Marketing at Microsoft Corp. "With the NewsGator Media Center Edition, NewsGator Technologies is delivering a complementary and innovative service that will let Media Center Edition PC users easily access their customized choice of news services."

More about NewsGator Media Center Edition

This is the latest step in the "any time, any place, any device" strategy that distinguishes the NewsGator product line. NewsGator Online Services allows users to read one set of content from any device, without duplication. The combined power of NewsGator Media Center Edition and Online Services offers customers a productive and fun way to access their personalized subscriptions and information from any device, whenever they need it.

The Road to Windows "Longhorn"
2004

The Road to Windows "Longhorn"
2004
08/27/2004 05:30 PM
Microsoft shocked the computer industry today when it announced that it would deliver its next major Windows release in 2006, but would do so without WinFS (Window Future Storage), one of the original major components of that upgrade. I've spoken with Microsoft about the change, and am presenting this information here in a bid to get it available to you as quickly as possible. However, I also expect to update this document significantly in the days ahead, so stay tuned.

2004 has not been a kind year for Longhorn. Awash as it is in ever-increasing delays, Longhorn has been the subject of barbs from even the most dimmed-minded computer industry columnists, many of whom have begun comparing the Longhorn release to Cairo, Microsoft's aborted mid-1990's object-oriented OS project. And no wonder: Like Cario, Longhorn was to have included the technological equivalent of the kitchen sink, and then some. Clearly, something in Longhorn had to give.

Chuck Baldwin, prominent Baptist pastor:
"The Religious Right Scares
Me"
12/22/2004 01:19 AM
Dr. Chuck Baldwin, vice-presidential candidate on the Constitution Party ticket in the 2004 U.S. election, wrote a “Food For Thought From The Chuck Wagon” entitled I Am A Conservative Christian, And The Religious Right Scares Me, Too. Chuck Baldwin starts off demonstrating his Christian roots, e.g.I am currently in my thirtieth year as the Senior Pastor of the Crossroad Baptist Church (Independent) in Pensacola, Florida. Then he explains his opposition to the "Religious Right."Sadly, the Religious Right is now a movement without a cause, except the cause of advancing the Republican Party.[...] I used to believe that liberals were paranoid for being fearful of conservative Christians gaining political power. Now, I share their trepidation.

Conducting "secure" financial
transactions with Internet Explorer
isn't safe

Conducting "secure" financial
transactions with Internet Explorer
isn't safe
07/06/2004 04:50 AM
The latest exploit is a file called "img1big.gif" that decompresses into a malevolent Browser Helper Object (BHO) that captures your financial transactions. According to a report from SANS, this BHO: watches for HTTPS (secure) access to URLs of several dozen banking and financial sites in multiple countries. When an outbound HTTPS connection is made to such a URL, the BHO then grabs any outbound POST/GET data from within IE before it is encrypted by SSL. When it captures data, it creates an outbound HTTP connection to http://www.refestltd.com/cgi-bin/yes.pl and feeds the captured data to the script found at that location. There are only two choices left with IE: Either don't browse the web with it, or don't use it for financial transactions. Thank goodness there are choices like Mozilla, Firefox and Opera, for those of us still chained to Windows....

Eolas: Legal Battle "Back To Square
One" For Round Two
08/20/2004 08:08 AM
As we reported just yesterday, Eolas has lost two of three legal disputes with Microsoft over it's patent and licensing claims. Eolas now claims the fight is far from over and has mailed an "office action" to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Eolas says the patent office had wrongfully withdrawn 10 of it's previous claims, including a previous finding from February. Eolas attorney Martin Lueck, of Minneapolis-based Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi LLP, said the patent office examiner had issued a new action—based on yet another piece of "prior art"—to reject the patent's claims. The prior-art piece was outside the examples offered by the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium), which brought the prior-art question to the attention of the patent office in November 2003.

"Eolas is attacking HTML itself. This goes to our heart," W3C CEO Steve Bratt said. "The patent could force Web site owners to modify their pages and server-side applications."
