Following Nikon's lead, Cannon introduced a new camera that supports an 802.11g adaptor: This professional-grade camera runs for $8,000. Nikon recently introduced its second Wi-Fi capable camera that now supports 802.11g. For the non-professionals in the crowd, Concord Camera will soon introduce a camera with an 802.11g adaptor that may cost a bit less....

Canon A85 4-Megapixel

Canon A85 4-Megapixel 07/20/2004 09:47 AM

PowerShot-A85_1.jpg imageCanon has released an updated PowerShot, bumping the A70 to the new A85, a 4-megapixel/3x optical zoom sidearm that also adds PictBridge comparability (for easy one-button transfer direct from camera to printer or portable hard drive). The A85 also ships with a 32MB Compact Flash card, which is a nice step up from the usual 16MB card most cameras are bundled with. It's about time we start seeing even low-end cameras with 32- or even 64-meg flash memory cards right out of the box.

Also, coffee at 5PM can not be mitigated with bourbon at 11PM. Good morning!

Canon Powershot 520

Canon Powershot 520 02/01/2005 09:08 PM

powershot_520.jpg imageCanon continues to flesh out its popular Powershot A Series of consumer cameras with the Powershot A520, a four-megapixel snapper with a 4x optical zoom. With an estimated price of $300—and a street price probably far below that—the 520 continues Canon's line of high-quality, easy-to-use cameras that don't take a lot of savvy to manage. Seriously, cheap memory card format (MMC/SD), common battery type (AA), and really nice quality images—what's not to like?

The 520 is the follow-up to the Powershot 510, which was just announced a week or two back.

Canon i9900

Canon i9900 12/22/2004 01:39 AM
We’ve spent quite a few bucks this last couple of years with one photo-finisher or another, and recently Lauren’s been cooking up business ideas around photography. So she went out and got a Canon i9900 and I got my hands on it first; wow! It’ll probably end up plugged into one of the fixed machines but we didn’t have the right cable, so I FireWired it into my Mac (grr, had to reboot to install the driver) and ran one or two of my favorite prints at 300dpi and well, my goodness gracious, they look just like what comes back from the online print service, only better. I’m sure that a fine professional photo-finisher who puts their soul into their work can do better, but that’s not what I’m getting when I upload my JPEGs to one mass-market printshop or another. And there’s lots of playing-around to do with DPI and paper finishes and colour spaces and so on. I assume that, things being what they are, the competition is about as good too, which is very good indeed.

Canon Announces the XL2

Canon Announces the XL2 07/13/2004 12:11 PM

canon_xl2.jpg image

The waiting is over for the prosumer mini-DV world as Canon (finally) releases the XL2, the follow-up to the wildly successful (some would say ground-breaking) XL1S. With both 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratios (film-like and TV-like, respectively), variable frame rates (again, to more closely emulate film or TV), interchangeable lens (the same as the XL1S had, including a new 20x optical zoom lens), and more, all wrapped around a 3 CCD system for maximum image, you know, fantasticness.

More after the jump.
