iDevGames has kicked off its fourth annual uDevGames contest -- an effort created to help spur the independent creation of Mac games through the use of open source code. The contest gives entrants three months to design, develop and finish a game, complete with coding, graphics and sound. Judges determine the winners based on categories including Gameplay, Graphics, Audio, Originality, Story and Polish, and prizes are distributed to developers or teams whose creations are judged to be the top three entries in each category. Special categories including Best Overall Game, Best Newcomer and an Editor's Choice Prize are also awarded.

Seybold San Francisco 2004 organizers MediaLive International Inc. announced on Friday the list of companies that will appear on the Pavilion Floor during the show, which will take place Aug. 16-20 at the Moscone West Convention Center. Autonomy and Quark are sponsoring the event, and the big names that will be on hand include Hewlett-Packard and Xerox. MediaLive expects Cadmus Communications, Design Science, i.t.i.p OHG, IXIASOFT, Master Colors LLC, Snapbridge Software, Van Gennep M.A.C. and Webware to be among the companies making announcements during the show. The Pavilion Floor will open Aug. 17 and close Aug. 19, with operating hours of 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. all three days, except Thursday, when the exhibit hall will close at 2:00 p.m.
