How Property Management Software Can
Help Make Filing Your Taxes Easier

Tax time can become very stressful for many real estate investors, it is a time when you need to get all your financials in order to present to the government for your yearly tax filings. Many investors try to manually work through their incomes and expenses on paper, going through numerous receipts, checks, etc. The job becomes very tedious and error prone, potentially leading to tax filing errors and the hence the dreaded tax audits. The good news is that there are better alternatives, mainly in the form of property management software. These software applications can really help speed up your tax filings, and not only that, they can also give you additional reports that can assist you in getting better returns from your investment properties. ParkingDirectory.com is the first and only website providing real-time reservations of residential driveways in metropolitan cities. "I came upon the idea when a friend and I were looking for parking in the Marina District of San Francisco one evening" says Gene Ellis, the creator of ParkingDirectory.com "There was no street parking and only one small parking garage, however there were TONS of empty residential driveways. I knew that if I could create a seamless way for homeowners to rent their driveways without needing face to face to contact with their renters, it would contribute a lot to solving the increasing problem of parking in big cities. It will also reduce the amount of harmful emissions released into the environment by vehicles constantly driving around looking for parking." [PRWEB Jul 12, 2004]

09/10/2004 09:33 AM
My cattle grazing grounds are not my idea and vice versa. But thanks to laws I can "own" the idea as if the idea was a cow ; link goes to a interesting university-level paper [PDF]. The author makes some interesting analysis and points attention to the fact that current intellectual property laws can go against well established economic theories at the expense of free market competition theory, technical innovations and society-as-a-whole best interest.

Recommended to people with economic theory experience , but also to everyday public-goods-privatization opposers as the paper isn't (intentionally) way too technical.

AT&T Wants To Scare Off VoIP Competitors

AT&T Wants To Scare Off VoIP Competitors 08/20/2004 07:42 PM
AT&T, who just dumped their residential landline business in favor of VoIP is now trying to suggest that VoIP telephony is going to be a tiny business -- worth only about $2 billion to the $25 billion-a-year company. There are plenty of ways to respond to this. First, just because they're a $25 billion-a-year company now, that doesn't mean they always will be. Second, everyone knows that VoIP brings in less direct revenue. Part of the reason customers are signing up for VoIP is that it's cheap. So, saying that it's such a "small" market isn't really stating anything new. In fact, it seems pretty clear that this statement is being said just to scare off competitors who are thinking about entering the market. He's hoping they hear that it's a small market and forget about it. Of course, if it were really such a small market, why would AT&T bother? Because they realize that the direct market for VoIP telephony is just the beginning. VoIP opens up many new opportunities to provide services and applications to users that will offer many more ways to profit from the traditional telephony system. In fact, as VoIP establishes itself as a platform, expect to see more providers drop the entranc e fee towards zero, as it helps them build up other areas of their business (and cause trouble for those who are only relying on voice telephony).
