My dad sent me the
url to this java-based slider tile puzzle, and it has killed half my
work day so far. He solved it in 48 moves. I guess 44 is the minimum.
I can't solve it! If everyone who reads Boing Boing spends ten minutes
on it, it will result in 312.5 man-days of wasted time! (It didn't
work in Safari for me; I had to use IE)

nib4j: a Java library for building
Swing-based UIs
06/30/2004 07:52 AMGerman developer ByteConsult has released
nib4j, a basic Java library
that allows you to employ Apple's Interface Builder to create user
interfaces (UIs) based on Swing, a Java component for building widgets
that carry out scripted events or perform other small tasks. nib4j
supports both absolute and relative positioning and sizing, over 25 UI
controls, the ability to embed custom components in the final product
and more. It also includes a nib4j Viewer that allows you try out your
creations without writing code. You can freely use nib4j for
non-commercial use; a developer license is US$199. System requirements
call for Mac OS X v10.3 and Java 1.4.1.

Samsung and T-Mobile's New Slider: d415
08/05/2004 10:52 AM
Samsung and T-Mobile have
announced a new slider phone today, the Samsung d415, a $300
cameraphone with a rotating lens and a two-inch, 262k-color screen
(262k is good; pretty much the best right now). Too bad the camera is
still only VGA-quality.
I like Samsung phones in general, though; I'm glad to see T-Mobile
carrying something a little more zesty.

T-Mobile. It's not that it isn't cool, it's just that first
impressions may be all you really need with this one, because
all-in-all it's not that deep.

Tile Project 0.6.2 (Default branch)
04/12/2005 03:24 AM

Tile is a program that can tile windows on the desktop, either
vertically or horizontally. It can avoid screen elements based
on window manager "profiles" that are user-customizable. It
has been mostly tested under MWM, but it also works with
some multi-desktop window managers (ones that use the
_WIN_WORKSPACE Atom, like FluxBox), given the "-m"
option.

Cute Puzzle
Cute Puzzle
03/11/2003 09:44 AMI saw this puzzle linked to here. Go play with
it and then you can see how it works.
Basically what it asks you to do always produces a number that is a
multiple of 9, which can be proven easily.
z = (10*x + y) - (x + y)
z = (10*x - x) + (y - y)
z = 9*x
So the puzzle functions by just placing the same symbol at each
multiple of 9. Still, it's a cute trick, since the puzzle actually
changes the symbol when you reload it. :)
