Rheumatic, lank, dyspeptic, lean;
The bad effects are plainly seen,
On those who do themselves the wrong,
Of buying any brand that comes along.
But happy though, the daily life,
Of the bright, contented, plump, housewife,
And happy all who take her stand
To buy the Arm & Hammer Brand.

Cards as weapons
Cards as weapons
06/21/2004 12:35 PMIn 1977, magician Ricky Jay wrote the definitive book on card
throwing--Cards As Weapons--with such chapters as "Cards and the
Martial Arts" and "Self-Defense." From the Smithsonian article about
Jay that I
bl
ogged a few days ago:
"According to the Guinness Book
of World Records, Jay has thrown a card farther, higher and faster
than anyone. He captured the records one day in 1976; one card he
threw traveled 135 feet; another sailed into a window several stories
up; another flew 90 miles an hour. He throws a card with such deadly
precision it can pierce a watermelon at 20 paces."
While Cards as Weapons unfortunately is out-of-print and
copies go for several hundred dollars, BB reader David Maduram has
posted selections from the text on his Web site.

Cards for 500 of my closest friends...
Cards for 500 of my closest friends...
01/10/2004 09:02 PM
Hugh aka gapingvoid, one of my
favorite online cartoonists, let me pick a cartoon and sent me 500
business cards with my contact info on once side, and this image on
the other. After getting a stack of 500 cards that say, "You are the
most important person in my Life" I realized the irony and realized
that maybe I chose the wrong phrase. ;-p
I do think his idea of cartoons on business cards is a cool
idea.
So what I need is a bunch of different cards ranging from "You are
the most important person in my Life" to "Talk to the hand." Then I
can choose which cards to give to people. This would be the
intentional physical version of what Cory doesn't
like about social software.
Of course, I would only give "Talk to the hand" to someone as a
joke... really.

1GB SD Cards to Hit Shelves this Month!
1GB SD Cards to Hit Shelves this Month!

Cards Hit a Higher Capacity
"SanDisk has begun production of SD memory cards with a 1GB
capacity and expects them to begin appearing on store shelves before
the end of this month.
SD, or
Secure Digital, cards are widely used in devices such as digital
still cameras. The higher capacity will mean users with large data
storage requirements won't have to carry around as many cards. The 1GB
card should be able to accommodate around 2000 images taken at
1,600-pixel by 1,200-pixel resolution. It should also be able to store
about nine hours of MPEG4 video or 16 hours of MP3 audio.
The company expects the cards to cost around
$500, says Bob Goligoski, a spokesperson for SanDisk." [PCWorld.com]
They can't come down in price fast enough for me.
I'll probably have to give in and get a 256MB card in the interim,
because the 1GB version costs almost as much as the Treo 600
itself!
