Or at least mostly done. Objects, that is. Everything I planned to have them do for the next release is done, so... Time to stress-test for the roll out for 0.1.0, and enjoy Parrot's crunchy object-y goodness! Enjoy! And yeah, I know--constructors, destructors, objects that masquerade as other PMC types, AUTOLOAD (or other fallback method providing mechanisms), cross-type inheritance, and multimethod dispatch would all be nice. Hey, you take what you can get, right? :)...

Lauren wanted to visit her Mum on the farm for a few days before Christmas. The world is well into its pre-Christmas slowdown and I’m coding away on Zeppelin these days, which doesn’t require much Net access, so I said OK. So I’m sitting in front of NetBeans except when I’m out pushing the kid’s sled down the hill or visiting with the cows. Zeppelin, like most software, has lots of layers, and I haven’t fiddled with the bottom-layer APIs for a while. Except for I did, added this trivial little method that Couldn’t Possibly Go Wrong, but (arrrrgh) no JUnit test to be sure. Which cost me the best part of a day of debugging a completely incomprehensible application full stop because down at the bottom level there was an args[0] instead of args[1]. To all those who sat in rooms at one point or another this last couple of years and listened to me drone on in a superior tone of voice about the extreme importance and Karmic excellence of unit testing, you are now entitled to one large snicker in my general direction.

Kirby point to "a Webjay playlist of various audio and video of random (seems to be mostly non-U.S.) Disney attractions. The Webjay player does not seem to want to play everything, but all but one link seems to work if you click them directly. There are a couple of seemingly rare things - at least I haven't seen them before - including a BBC documentary on the building of Disneyland Paris' Space Mountain."

An R-Rated Trademark Dispute?

An R-Rated Trademark Dispute? 04/19/2005 04:16 AM
The MPAA really does get a little crazy when it comes to over-reacting on intellectual property issues. Their latest move is to send out cease-and-desist letters to sites that host fan fiction -- not because those made up stories use characters, places and themes from real movies -- but because they use the (trademarked) MPAA movie rating system. That's right, if you happen to label your story as rated G, PG, PG-13, R or NC-17, you'd better watch out, the MPAA might come after you. Of course, they seem to ignore the fact that this system has become common around the world, is hardly taking anything away from the MPAA's own system (if anything, it enhances it), and also is useful in keeping age-inappropriate stories off the screens of those who shouldn't see them.
