Trend Micro Inc has released an overview of a worm that is currently doing the rounds infecting users PC's and transferring itself through the MSN Messenger service.

MSN Messenger is under attack of a worm that comes with a seductive name and download link. The user clicks on the link and gets the copy of attached worm for his PC. The worm can spread on the network and shared computers. The worm can disable the Anti-Virus software and then infect the Files in PC, It can also spread easily after it disables anti virus program.

Trend Micro Inc. has also raised the threat level on the W32/Bropia worm. The company said that worm could cause more harm in case it spread more through MSN Messenger buddies and Shared Networks. The virus has antidebugging feature also.

The virus logs keystrokes. It can also retrieve credit card numbers and other sensitive information. The W32/Bropia worm contains a variant of the Rbot backdoor Trojan. The virus could be a higher threat to sensitive information as it can store information. It is also capable of using the infected machine to hijack sensitive data.

MSN Messenger Worm Packs Double Punch
Anti-virus vendors have raised the threat level on a double-barrelled MSN Messenger worm that lures users with the promise of sexy image files.

 The worm, identified as W32/Bropia, arrives as a download link within MSN instant messaging sessions, but instead of sexy photographs, infected users get an image of a cooked chicken on a platter with a neatly drawn bikini tan line.

The worm also deposits a variant of the Rbot backdoor Trojan that is capable of using infected machines to create zombie networks, security experts warn.

Microsoft has posted a list of programs with possible issues in Service Pack 2. This is not a list of incompatible programs, but it is a list of programs that may or may not work correctly, or may behave differently, in SP2.

Service Pack 2 introduces a number of new features that help increase performance and security, and many the issues in the programs listed are related to the introduction of the Windows Firewall feature. You can also search the Microsoft Knowledge Base for specific issues that are related to your program and for the effects of the increased security features that are offered in Windows XP SP2. (Use the WINXPSP2 keyword in your searches.)

In many cases software vendors will release patches to their software to correct these possible issues. Such a case where this has taken place is the Neowin UXTheme MultiPatcher (which strangely enough is listed on this page). We have updated this program to version 2.0 with the release of SP2. (More info) Microsoft has 1.5.1 listed.
