Apple unveils Final Cut Studio

Apple unveils Final Cut Studio 04/17/2005 06:47 PM
Apple today announced updates to its professional suite of applications — Final Cut Pro HD, DVD Studio Pro and Motion — along with the re-emergence of Soundtrack as a standalone app and a new bundle, Final Cut Studio. Final Cut Studio brings together the latest versions of Apple’s video production products: Final Cut Pro 5, Motion 2 and DVD Studio Pro 4, along with an updated version of Soundtrack. According to Apple, this is what you get for $1,299 ($699 upgrade from Final Cut Pro; $499 from Production Suite): Final Cut Pro 5 Make videos and movies in any format with Final Cut Pro 5, a major upgrade to Apple's award-winning video editing application. It features powerful new multi-camera editing, native HDV support, precision editing tools, scalable real-time effects processing, advanced real-time color correction and image manipulation filters and audio control surface support. Soundtrack Pro Use action-based editing to creatively design new sounds, instantly repair imperfect location recordings, add perfect sound effects or musical Apple Loops, save hours bringing audio in and out of your video editor thanks to seamless integration with Final Cut Pro and more. Motion 2 Whether you're animating broadcast graphics, corporate presentations, feature film titles, or DVD menus, you'll find an original, fresh toolset and new features such as GPU-accelerated rendering, amazing new filters and effects and more. DVD Studio Pro 4 Whether you produce demo reels, complex commercial titles or anything in between, DVD Studio Pro 4 offers simple, powerful tools for authoring DVDs. The latest upgrade introduces the next-generation of DVD delivery with HD DVD support for both H.264 and HDV and advanced authoring options like Alpha Transitions and multiple video and audio tracks. Each of the above applications are available as standalone applications, with Soundtrack Pro and Motion coming in at $299; DVD Studio Pro for $499; and Final Cut Pro for $999. Upgrades are available for prior owners, as well as “special pricing” of $99 for owners of Soundtrack. All of the above applications are set to be released in May. Editor’s note: In the technical specs for DVD Studio Pro, playing back high-definition DVDs requires a "Macintosh computer with PowerPC G5," "Apple DVD Player v4.6" and "Mac OS X v10.4.1" Rumors have persisted that Apple, since joining the Blu-ray Disc Association, will add the drive to its next line-up of Power Mac G5 computers. Apple has in the past shipped special versions of its operating system in order to accommodate certain features on certain machines.
