Hypulp is a new effort by Paul Baron (recently profiled in Wired.com and TheFeature) and Paulus Dreibholz which "documents the influence of the internet on print design." Although only a few weeks old, discussions on the site include the use of web fonts in print, barcodes linking to online content, and other topics in that milieu.

Despite the fact that I used to be cartoonist, my graphic design skills are...well, limited. And while I'm a fast coder, it takes me hours to create even the simplest images - the banners and buttons I made for TopStyle felt like they took more time to create than TopStyle itsef.

Well, I now find myself needing banners for FeedDemon, and I'm trying desperately to avoid creating them myself. So, here's a chance for graphic designers to show off their talent and win a copy of both FeedDemon and TopStyle in the process. Here's what I need:

Two 468x60 FeedDemon ad banners
One 135x100 FeedDemon ad banner
One 120x60 FeedDemon ad banner

All images should be 256 color GIFs, and while animation is fine it shouldn't be overbearing. For branding purposes, each image should use some variation of the FeedDemon logo, which appears at the right of this entry. The contest starts now and ends January 31, 2004.

Just send your creations to me at info at bradsoft.com. The four winning designs will be showcased here soon after the contest ends.

The $5.8 billion graphic design industry has over 16,000 individual businesses (each averaging about four employees), as well as 80,000 freelancers, and spends more than $400 million annually on capital goods, according to a new study to be published by Strategies for Management, Inc. " Fifty years ago, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or Mormon Church, began a foster care program for American Indian children. Between twenty and fifty thousand children, mostly Navajo, participated in what was called the Indian Student Placement Program....Through Placement, children had the opportunity to grow up in families – white Mormon families – while attending day schools in Utah and across the West. Placement also had a theological motivation. Championed in the ‘50s by an LDS Church leader named Spencer W. Kimball, Placement grew from a sense of commitment to the Indians – then regarded as descendants of the original people of the Book of Mormon. This may be the worst movie I've ever watched all the way through. Highly stylized garbage. Not even Willem Dafoe as an openly gay FBI agent in drag could save it (I'm not one of those people that thinks that bad movies are good because they're so bad). The only reason I gave it any points at all is because I watched it with friends and we heckled and it was a bit fun to do so (but only a bit).
