07/23/2004 07:42 PMTelecom companies have the opportunity to provide a crucial link in
commercial Web services. As corporate developers and end users
assemble integrated suites of software exploiting telcos' network
services, they can leverage telcos' core strengths in messaging,
call-control, presence, location and billing – all via programmable
Web services. In this demo, Carter depicts a Longhorn call center
application that coordinates internal and external Web services to
assist a stranded motorist.

in community interaction, shared annotations, lifelong digital
portfolios, licensed content, mobility, and digital media. In this
concept video, Carter shows some early work with McGraw-Hill, as he
steps through physics calculations to send a space probe to Saturn.

a few more videos, each of them offering a detailed look at not only
the new technologies but the potential applications for them. All of
the presentations look at Avalon, Indigo, and other technologies to be
featured in Longhorn.

as demonstrating platform advances coming in Longhorn in

(Happy Birthday Video #4)
04/06/2005 12:38 PMYou never think of them, right? Well, that's by design: good fonts
aren't noticed for the most part but they are important in how usable
your computer is and how easy it is to use for a long period of time
and how productive you'll be on it.
The Cleartype team, which makes both fonts as well as the technology
to display them better on your screen, were hanging out in the hall
the other day so we turned on our camera and started talking.

that they are going to build it. And that it's going to be cheap. They
are talking about competing with the Mazda Miata. The Porsche 911 got
nice round headlights again instead of the oval blobs and is just
amazingly beautiful. I like the look of the VW until I see a picture
