This could be a parody, but here's a brothel menu in the same vein as the House Cafeterias' "patriotic" menu revisions (below). Link Discuss (Thanks, Kowgirl!)

Sort of Spy Shots of the AT&T OGO 09/27/2004 05:34 AM

box_prices_lg.jpg imageA reader of ours got to play around with AT&T's new OGO instant messaging tool over the weekend and sent us these snaps of the box and the device itself. It definitely has Bluetooth and a USB port, but I think the most interesting bit is that you have to pay extra money if you want to use all three IM services (AOL, MSN, and Yahoo!). That is, of course, unless they mean that you can have three OGOs on one account for just $6 more a month - that seems a little too generous to me.

I'll post the rest of the pictures after the jump.

Vacation of sort 06/18/2004 03:34 AM

I just got back home from SFO after watching my wife and son enter the passenger gate.  They are going to Korea to visit family and friends for a month.  This means I'll be on a vacation from family life for the next month.  Heeehaaaw!  So far I got a private poker tourney scheduled for Saturday.  I should do well enough to beat most of the players, but I doubt I'll be taking the big pot home because trying to win the tourney takes too much fun out of the game.

CLI for noobies: sort of bragging

CLI for noobies: sort of bragging 06/01/2004 04:26 AM
The Linux GUIs are -- in my opinion -- on par with those of Windows or the Mac for ease of use, though I don't think any of the Linux GUIs are as pretty as that of the Mac, or even Windows. Since pretty is not my top priority when choosing an operating system, I can live with that. But when you compare the command line environment of DOS/Windows with that of Linux, it's like comparing a wheelbarrow with an 18-wheeler. This week we'll look at the sort command, and a couple of options you may not be familiar with.

Interesting article by Di Luo in Computer Gaming world about the government using games not to recruit and train for war (e.g., America's Army) but to teach more peaceful tactics. Tactical Language Learning System and Virtual Environment Cultural Training for Operational Readiness teach cultural sensitivity. The former is built on the Unreal engine and the latter uses the LithTech engine that brought us so much gamey fun in No One Lives Forever and Tron. For example, VECTOR players learn to understand other cultures' body language, and also get extra points for head shots. The article also reports that the International...
