Add-ons for Tablet PC

On Monday morning, Microsoft shipped an add-on pack for Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 designed at making Tablet PCs more enjoyable by consumers. Dubbed the Experience Pack for Tablet PC, the new add-on features six new utilities that enhance the Tablet PC in fun and exciting ways. The Experience Pack for Tablet PC consists of the following applications and add-ons: Energy Blue theme and Windows Media Player skin - This theme first debuted with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 and was previously made available to Tablet PC owners as a separate download. The theme is cleaner and more professional looking than the default XP theme. Ink Desktop - An innovative OS add-on that lets you jot notes and drawings directly on the XP desktop. You can configure Ink Desktop to display different templates--like a note pad, to-do list, or monthly calendar--or to be completely transparent. Snipping Tool 2.0 - A full-featured update to a classic Tablet PC PowerToy that lets you virtually clip information from Web pages and other documents, the new Snipping Tool includes a completely revamped user interface, different clipping styles (including rectangular and complete window), and various paste targets. Ink Art - An amazing natural paint program that is so realistic you'll think you're painting or drawing directly on the Tablet's screen. One stunning feature, the tracing paper, lets you paint "over" digital photographs, leading to artistic interpretations of your favorite pictures, even if you're not an artist. Ink Crossword - A virtual crossword puzzle that comes with 12 puzzles and the ability to download more free and paid puzzles. Ink Crossword includes an optional timer, a letter help feature, and will prompt you when you've entered correct or incorrect letters. Media Transfer - A software-based Windows Media Connect client that lets Tablet PC owners easily download or stream digital photos, music, and videos from other XP-based PCs in their home.

Dispute

Microsoft, C I Settle Software License
Dispute
01/04/2005 11:03 AM
A three-and-a-half-year dispute between Microsoft and a Texas Web-hosting operation has ended, with one becoming a partner to the other in the process. Dallas-Fort Worth-based C I Host announced on Monday that a federal judge dismissed a long-running suit filed against it by Microsoft. C I Host is a global Web host and data center operator, serving 215,000 individual consumers and businesses in 190 countries. The dispute goes back to September 2001, when Microsoft said it first notified the hosting company of its concerns that it might not have taken a service provider license agreement for Windows server products. According to the complaint, C I Host responded in December 2001 by denying wrongdoing and threatening to sue Microsoft for defamation if it went public with the charges.
