Shadow Ops: Red Mercury

Shadow Ops: Red Mercury 06/16/2004 04:46 PM

Atari shipped Shadow Ops: Red Mercury today for Xbox. Served up by developer Zombie Studios, the game is by all reckoning a generic one-man army FPS. Which isn't surprising, given that Zombie's last inspiration came from the generic one-man and one-woman army movie Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever. Zombie was making a PS2 game based on the movie, but the project was cancelled when, in an unfortunate accident, the movie totally sucked.

Atari is pitching the game as an "interactive blockbuster", with a modern military thriller storyline involving a trans-continental hunt for a stolen nuclear device. This blockbuster is PG-13, or in videogame parlance, T for Teen, which means no blood and lots of explosions.

Back to Mercury After 30 Years!

Back to Mercury After 30 Years! 07/10/2004 11:02 AM
“MESSENGER is scheduled to launch from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla., during a 13-day period that opens August 2, 2004. It will return to Earth for a gravity boost in August 2005, then fly past Venus twice, in October 2006 and June 2007. The spacecraft uses the tug of Venus’ gravity to resize and rotate its trajectory closer to Mercury’s orbit. Three Mercury flybys, each followed about two months later by a course correction maneuver, put MESSENGER in position to enter Mercury orbit in March 2011. During the flybys – set for January 2008, October 2008 and September 2009 – MESSENGER will map nearly the entire planet in color, image most of the areas unseen by Mariner 10, and measure the composition of the surface, atmosphere and magnetosphere. It will be the first new data from Mercury in more than 30 years – and invaluable for planning MESSENGER’s yearlong orbital mission.”
