OpenSSH LDAP Public Key patch 0.3.2
(Default branch)
04/06/2005 07:01 AM
The OpenSSH LDAP Public Key patch provides an easy way of centralizing strong user authentication by using an LDAP server for retrieving public keys instead of ~/.ssh/authorized_keys. It uses the standard core.schema/nis.schema and strongAuthenticationUser object class, which can simplify login centralization but could introduce serious security flaws if the LDAP server is not correctly configured.
Changes:
This release added support for LDAP server failover, LDAP persistent connections, a rewrite and cleanup of the LDAP userkey retrieval and group checks, renamed sshd_config lpk tokens, an easier installation process, and various bugfixes.

Adware Uses IE Flaw 06/09/2004 05:14 PM
While most adware companies have used sneaky, but legitimate, ways to get their products onto your computer, someone has now discovered one that is apparently exploiting a flaw in IE to install itself and (as most of these things do) cause all sorts of trouble. Microsoft claims that the company that has done so has broken the law, and they plan to go after them. While the typical response is that this is yet another reason to avoid IE, most people still remain stuck to the program.

QuickTime MPEG-2 Component Expired

QuickTime MPEG-2 Component Expired 12/16/2003 02:53 PM
As reported by Mac FixIt, we have confirmed that QuickTime's MPEG-2 component (an additional purchase made by several users which allowed the playback of MPEG-2 files) expired on December 14th, 2003, leaving thousands of users without the ability to play MPEG-2 files. We have also confirmed that a re-install of the component has no effect.

Update: Repairing permissions has no effect.

Update: Several MacFixIt readers are reporting that the MPEG-2 component for QuickTime 6.3 is working properly. This problem may only be related to the new MPEG-2 component released for QuickTime 6.4.

Continuing the coverage of this article, it appears that the component is now fixed. You can fix it via a reinstall from your apple store account, or Final Cut Pro 4 and DVD Studio Pro 2 users can download it here, providing their serial number. It is unclear whether this is a new version, or if another issue has crippled the installed component for a brief time span. The "updated" installer's creation date is listed as October 17, 2003.
