System Granted Patent
06/01/2004 02:19 AMDr. Hengning Wu is awarded a US patent for the invention of a
people-oriented universal communication system. When Dr. Wu resigned
from a leading superconductor company in Denmark to look for
opportunities in Northern Virginia in 2000, he knew he would work on
something related to computer, but he did not know he would come up
with an idea that will address a fundamental problem of communication
and the internet. Identity theft, email spam, illegal music file
sharing, electronic voting fraud, and frustrating telemarketing calls,
all these problems will be solved with the people-oriented universal
communication system. The system will unify all the available physical
networks and provide a common platform for efficient e-business
solutions. [PRWEB Jun 1, 2004]

Flat-Screen Makers Face Patent Lawsuits
in U.S.
03/14/2005 06:26 PMTwo industrial manufacturers, Guardian Industries Corp. and Honeywell
International Inc., have sued dozens of companies in the global PC and
video display businesses in a U.S. federal court to try to recoup
royalties on liquid-crystal technology. Guardian Industries, a maker
of industrial glass, and Honeywell, known for making weapons systems,
assert in filings in the U.S. District Court in Delaware that their
intellectual property for liquid crystal displays, used in notebook
computers, TVs, and cellular phones, have been infringed.
Taiwan and South Korea are the two primary centers of LCD production,
which is growing rapidly as demand for LCD-based televisions rises.
The lawsuits target the LCD industry directly, but also assert claims
against companies that incorporate LCDs into final electronic
products. Jin Kim, the director LCD market research for research firm
DisplaySearch, said the LCD business largely avoided patent lawsuits
through its earlier years, but has attracted litigants as the business
blossomed into a $40 billion market.

Mortgages Stretch Borrowers
05/16/2004 12:21 PMReuters: Popular ARM loans can misfire for some
homebuyers. "Those stretching to get into a home by using that
(ARM) as a tool but haven't planned ahead are going to get into
trouble," warned Douglas Duncan, chief economist at the Mortgage
Bankers Association.
So why are Duncan's members
enticing borrowers so ardently with ARM-based loans? This is like the
credit-card industry, which whines about delinquent consumers but does
everything in its power to sign up new customers who will have trouble
paying.
