I think it might have been the best toy I ever owned. Nearly forty years later, I can clearly remember the wonderful smell of Plastigoop.

They still make Creepy Crawlers, but the "Thingmaker" cooker is now a crappy plastic box with a light bulb heating element and a safety door that won't let you see your creepy crawler cook. Also, the Plastigoop smells completely different -- quite unpleasant. I feel sorry for kids these days.

Food Porn -- Burger King Subservient
Chicken

Food Porn -- Burger King Subservient
Chicken
04/09/2004 04:05 PM
BoingBoing reader aeon points us to a bizarre marketing move by junk-food empire Burger King:
...For when "your way" calls for an enslaved chicken, Burger King invites you to "have chicken your way" by offering you the newest in ads even veteran AdBusters won't want to bust: The Subservient Chicken. He "riverdances", he "throws pillows", he "builds forts" and he even takes "bonghits". He's technically a rooster, but let's not worry about that when we can tell him to "play air guitar", "moonwalk", or "grab crotch like michael jackson." The Subservient Chicken: more than a furry's dream come true, more than a timewaster for stoned college kids; this method of advertizing just begs to be copied like so many memes. Plus, you can tell him to "die".
How very interesting. I wonder if the ad execs who came up with this realize (a) the Internet is so weird that genuine furry submissive fetish poultry sites with live webcams already exist, and (b) (this is absolutely true) legendary porn magnate Larry Flynt claims to have lost his virginity to a chicken? If so, the new Burger King campaign is extra-creepy, hold the fries. And if not, they really ought to be reading more BoingBoing. Link to Subserrvient Chicken

Update: BoingBoing reader Bobby Martin says, "For the obsessive compulsive, we've started a list of things the subservient chicken will and won't do. It's on a wiki, so you can sign up and add your quirky/interesting/fucking weird discoveries to the list for all to see." Excerpts:
Will Do: poop | macarena | lol | fart | lay an egg | hokey pokey
Will do, sort of: flip me off | masturbate | get funky | tear the place up
Won't do: barf | hurtle the couch or jump over it | vacuum

Friends of mine have a child afflicted with a kind of autism.  A parent of an autistic child has developed some free software (Windows-only) that teaches kids by asking them to perform tasks and showing them short video clips if they perform the task.  My friends own a collection of DVDs that they would like to transfer to the PC and chop up into 10-second segments.  I'm pretty sure that they can handle the chopping once they get their DVD into a standard Windows video format (.avi?).  As I understand it, Hollywood tries to make this as difficult as possible.  How can my friends work around the various encryption and other format conversion issues?  This would be on a WinXP machine.

Lyra Research’s new report, "Commercial Printing: An Overview of Production and Wide-Format," is essential reading for vendors in the commercial printing market. The report focuses on key trends in commercial printing, including sharp increases in sales of eco-solvent or mild solvent wide-format printers, declining prices for wide-format devices, and inexpensive Chinese wide-format printer products entering the European and U.S. markets. On the narrow-format side, acquisitions by key players have taken center stage. [PRWEB May 18, 2005]
