Bubble Burst 2? Ecommerce Sites Feel the
White Hot Sting of Local Search
04/09/2004 04:06 PM

There is a growing belief among many ecommerce sites that local search is a significant threat to e-commerce. The local search process is turning net ecomm buyers into local bricks-n-mortar buyers. This in turn is hurting many pure-net-play e-commerce sites negatively.

Social Network Bubble Officially Burst

Social Network Bubble Officially Burst 03/17/2005 03:26 AM
It was just about a year ago that it seemed like the social networking craze had reached the height of its frenzy when Barry Diller stepped in to buy ZeroDegrees. Just one year later, very few people are talking about social networking any more. Friendster has more or less disappeared from the news and (as if to prove social networking is long gone as something worthy of buzz), Yahoo has final ly jumped into the game. So, it seems fitting that Barry Diller is now looking to dump ZeroDegrees, after the me-too social networking site pretty much went nowhere at all. Once again, it's looking like social networking was a bubble where those involved got confused about the difference between investm ent and revenue.

Looking For Local Search

Looking For Local Search 02/13/2004 01:13 PM
A new study has found that when people are searching online for a place to buy something, approximately one out of every four is looking for a local retailer they can go to buy the product, rather than just looking for an online retailer. With that high a percentage, you can understand why the search companies are all starting to invest in local search offerings. What will be interesting is how this percentage changes over time. Will people become more internet focused (location doesn't matter) or will they continue to search out local stores (which may depend on the strength of local search options)?

Key factors driving movement of SCO
Group stock, Part 2
04/21/2004 11:22 AM
Aside from some news that has been a catalyst for moving the SCOX stock price this year, there have been a number of other factors that have been driving it. They include: Insider sales (it's noteworthy that management has been selling, not buying!), Trading by various funds/investors with large positions in the stock (such as Royce, Canopy, etc.) probably including some ramping by the PIPE investors to help prop up the stock price, and SCO Group's stock buy-back program (in my view, a last-ditch attempt to manipulate the stock price).
