Interview: Rishi Persaud of iSkin

Interview: Rishi Persaud of iSkin 08/04/2004 09:57 AM

iskin_interview.jpg imageGizmodo field reporter Kenneth Armstrong recently had the opportunity to talk to Rishi Persaud, who is in charge of product development at iSkin, about the state of their business and how they are moving beyond the iPod. Far beyond. Like, record-label beyond.

Gizmodo: I was wondering if you could talk a little about how you've grown with the portable music player business? When you started it was really in its infancy and now your product line reflects the incredibly popular iPods, iPod minis and now iRiver portables.

iSkin: We jumped into a growing industry pertaining to the portable digital player market. We have shown tremendous growth and a lot of it has to do with our dedicated staff. It is great when you have a team that believes in the overall success of a brand and its effect on the customer.

iSkin Inc. introduced a keyboard protector called ProTouch XT on Friday. ProTouch XT was designed to fit Apple's regular and wireless keyboards in a form-fitting manner that keeps out debris while maintaining the typing feel, in addition to dampening keystroke noise. It can be removed and washed off whenever necessary. The ProTouch XT retails for US$29.99 and comes in blue and transparent colors, with more on the way, according to iSkin. The company also notes that the cover doesn't fit Apple's older Pro keyboard nor its USB keyboard.

Fading Ways Music, indie label,
announces 2004 releases will be CC!
02/10/2004 02:41 AM

Fading Ways Music, an indie record label based out of Toronto, announced their 2004 releases will be sold under Creative Commons Attribution-N oncommercial-ShareAlike licenses. Fading Ways Music is the first internationally-distributed label to adopt Creative Commons licensing for its new physical CD releases. Fading Ways articulates its philosophy for open-licenses nicely on its mission page. Neil Leyton, the label's manager, makes a great quote here: "Music Publishing as a concept is wrong. No one creates songs out of thin air."

Fading Ways joins other labels, such as Opsound, Magnatune, and Loca Records that embrace Creative Commons licenses, enabling fans to rip, mix, and burn their favorite tunes without legal doubt.
