Inputs and Outputs 04/09/2004 04:05 PM

When I wrote recently about OpenOffice.org, I remarked in passing that an OO.o-based blogging facility would need a previewer. This provoked a lenghty and thoughtful response from Robert J. Chassell; I asked him to post it so I could point to it, and he has. He’s also posted Four Types of User Interface and notes that there is more to be read at www.rattlesnake.com/notions . Clearly, this man should blog. [Update: He is! Feed here.]< /i>

Sony PStwo Announced

Sony PStwo Announced 09/21/2004 10:38 AM

pstwo.jpg
imageThe PStwo has been announced! The new SCPH-70000 CB series is a new network-ready Playstation 2 that looks a lot like the existing model, only made smaller and more compact. There are a load of new peripherals, as well, but they are mostly just new vertical stands and a new Multitap (for hooking more than 2 players up to the console at once).

Of course, if you play a hard drive-based game like Final Fantasy XI, you'll have to keep using the old model.

The thing is, though, at least in this press release, they aren't calling it the PStwo. Maybe they aren't going to brand it separately this time. I'll try to get a better image here in a bit. (Thanks, everybody!)

The PStwo: "significant shrinkage" 09/22/2004 02:10 PM
In the previous bullet news post, we reported on Sony's (then rumored) plans to produce a smaller version of the PS2 along the lines of the PSone. I'm happy to report that the rumors are true.

FlashPoint prepares to unlock the pictures of more than 40 million digital camera owners who have their pictures trapped in their PC. Consumers are tired of trying to share their pictures with cumbersome email attachments and time consuming uploads to web sites. The innovative Qurio Instant Photo Server allows you to instantly share thousands of full resolution pictures over the Internet, directly from your own PC. And, since your pictures stay right on your own hard drive, you remain in complete control of your personal pictures. [PRWEB Sep 9, 2004]

Sony to Launch Smaller PStwo

Sony to Launch Smaller PStwo 09/17/2004 12:44 PM

Reuters is reporting that Sony intends to unveil a new smaller version of the Playstation two next week, called the PStwo. Like the successful shrinky-dink PSone version of the first Playstation, the PStwo will maintain all the same functionality (although who knows about the inputs and outputs) and will play all the same games as the older PS2. As usual, if anyone has pictures they'd like to share, we're always happy to maintain your anonymity.

I would also expect information about the PSP to solidify next week, too, with pricing and launches dates to be shored up for both Japan and elsewhere. My favorite PSP launch title so far? "Fight Club Mahjongg." I'm so not joking.

Update: It's probably best to clarify that this isn't set in stone from Sony yet. They did register the PStwo name, though, so I would expect a new console is likely, although we may not hear about it Tuesday.

Photo Sharing Gone Wild

Photo Sharing Gone Wild 06/25/2004 05:10 PM
“Moblogs are weblogs that typically feature grainy, low-res photos taken with cell phone cameras. People e-mail the images from their phones to a site like Fotolog, Plogger, or TextAmerica, where their pix can be immediately seen and ridiculed (or praised) by complete strangers. Besides offering instant, if limited, celebrity, moblogs provide a unique form of spontaneous photojournalism. They can also be downright weird.”

Well, it's not quite as big a deal as Yahoo buying Oddpost, but Google has now bought photo-sharing company Picasa, which was already a Blogger partner. It's not a huge surprise to see Google expanding their offerings in more of the portal direction. The only question, of course, is how many spare Gmail gigs are going to be offered for people storing photos. Also, will people now complain that Google is scanning your personal photos in order to put up relevant advertising?
