NewsForge suddenly looks different

NewsForge suddenly looks different 07/16/2004 06:34 PM
We're still debugging the new layout and code; there may be glitches for a few days. But we were w-a-y overdue for a new look and decided to put it up a little early so you'd have a chance to check it out and play with it before we made any formal announcement to the rest of the world. Please let us know what you think of the new layout either by posting a comment or taking half a second to click a Poll button. Or both.

NewsForge takes a day off

NewsForge takes a day off 09/06/2004 01:58 AM
September 6 is Labor Day in the USA, so most NewsForge people will not be working. We'll be back tomorrow -- tanned, rested, and ready.

You can now choose several different ways to view NewsForge. The default will continute to be the single-column "narrow" layout you see if you're not logged in (or if you're logged in and don't know how to change it), but you can now have a two-column layout if you like, with NewsVac links appearing at the top of your main page, next to our own features. And there are other things you can customize, too.

What should NewsForge cover at
LinuxWorld?
01/22/2004 02:10 AM
Two of our editors, Lee Schlesinger and Robin 'Roblimo' Miller, will be at the New York LinuxWorld Conference & Expo this week. NewsForge is there on your behalf, looking at things you'd look at if you could come, asking the questions you'd ask if you could be there yourself, serving as your "eyes and ears" in the conference sessions and on the show floor. So tell us: What would you like us to cover at LinuxWorld?

Happy Holidays from NewsForge

Happy Holidays from NewsForge 12/24/2003 08:10 PM
Most major religions have some sort of holiday during this season, and in countries that use the Gregorian calendar many companies close down or work short hours until the current year ends and the next one begins. We, too, will be taking time off to spend with our families and friends, so NewsForge will be on a reduced posting schedule between now and January 1.

Okay, the holiday season is over, and it's time to wake up. Santa failed to bring you that new blade server rack, and you still have a business to run. Where are you going to deploy your limited financial and human resources this year?

NewsForge takes a holiday

NewsForge takes a holiday 12/02/2003 01:51 AM
Happy Thanksgiving! NewsForge will be on a reduced posting schedule 27/Nov/03 through 30/Nov/03, and back to full strength on December 1. If you are someplace where Thanksgiving is celebrated, we hope you enjoy the holiday. If not, we'll enjoy it for you, and later you can enjoy some of your holidays for us while we work. :)

Why NewsForge doesn't publish only
pro-FOSS stories
07/24/2004 06:30 AM
Some of our readers seem to feel NewsForge should only publish or link to stories that boost free and open source software. We disagree. While NewsForge editors are generally pro-FOSS, our job is to present a complete picture of what is going on with free and open source software, not just the positive side.

Newsforge is featuring a new and interesting article that quizzes administrators about the technology they use to get online. The good news - Site administrators from popular linux community sites - LinuxForum.com, JustLinux.com, LinuxPlanet, LinuxQuestions.org - have PHP as part of their foundation. Also interesting to note is their preference of PHP-powered forum software - phpBB, vBulettin, Invision Powerboard. Enjoy the full article.
