Fujitsu has been showing off its new robot with a
computer display embedded in its chest, designed to act as a sort of
mobile kiosk for museums, shopping malls, and office buildings (or
wherever you need a friendly robot, I'm sure). And it runs Windows XP
Embedded, so if you want to install your favorite first person shooter
and really play against a bot, you totally can. Should hit the
streets in 2005.

Fujitsu Multipad
08/02/2004 10:25 AM
Fujitsu has a new "PDA for Professionals" called the
Multipad ("Leeloo Dallas, Multipad"), an oddly-shaped but
strangely-appealing Pocket PC unit with built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth,
Compact Flash, and miniSD slots, all wrapped around a 400MHz Intel
CPU. Sadly, it still has the lower-resolution 320 by 240 screen that
is typical of lower-ended PocketPCs. You'd think in something so
full-featured (and full priced, likely) they would have sprung
for the juicier screen.
Despite the numeric keypad, the Multipad isn't a phone, either.
Instead, it looks like its designed for use in inventory systems and
other business-oriented applications.

Fujitsu Ups HandyDrives
Fujitsu Ups HandyDrives
12/19/2004 03:01 PM
Fujitsu has upgraded its bus-powered HandyDrive portable
hard drives to include storage options as capacious as 100GB. The
largest version comes in at about $200, which isn't an awful price for
something so potentially convenient. The FAT32-formatted drives will
work with pretty much any modern operating system, although the
bus-powered nature suggests you will want to use something with real
USB 2.0 support and not just any old flimsy hub.

Why Windows breaks
02/16/2004 10:43 AMLOOK, one really hates to crow over others' misfortunes, but there are
times when we're doubly pleased our office (and home) runs on Apple
Macs, not Windows computers. About the first or second week of every
month in fact.
That's when Microsoft, developer of the Windows operating system,
issues its regular warnings about the latest security problems and
viruses to affect PCs running its bug-ridden software. Last week's
bulletin, to no-one's surprise, listed yet another potentially deadly
flaw in most Windows versions.

Page Breaks
12/12/2003 03:14 PMWebCore now supports values of always for page-break-before
and page-break-after. I followed the CSS2.1 specification very
closely, which says you can only apply these properties to block level
elements in the root's block formatting context. I suspect other
browsers may be more lax in their acceptance of these properties, so
if anyone has real-world sites I can test, post them here.

Fujitsu's DESKPOWER TX now earns the title of
"desktop with largest integrated LCD," if there is such a thing. At
32", the screen of the DESKPOWER TX90L/D is far larger than others in
its class. I'm pretty disappointed in the resolution, though, at a
mere 1360 x 768. I might add that the TX90L/D is the first machine to
support the digital recording of terrestrial digital
broadcasts, but we'll stay away from that feature as basically no one
outside Japan even knows what "terrestrial digital broadcasts"
are.

Fujitsu Pocket LOOX v70
Fujitsu Pocket LOOX v70
07/07/2004 08:04 AM
Fujitsu is releasing a new Pocket PC in Japan, the
Pocket LOOX v70 within the next couple of weeks, with a 3.7-inch VGA
screen and a 1.3-megapixel camera. It looks like a nice unit -- pretty
typical for the current high-end generation Windows Mobile 2003 Second
Edition models -- but with a current indicated price for around $730,
you'll probably want to wait until Fujitsu imports it here, purchase a
different brand of Pocket PC, or do something about that weak
dollar.
The Pocket LOOX v70 is one of the first PDAs to use the
newly-announced "Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition software for
Pocket PC Japanese Version," a self-explanatory iteration of the
latest Pocket PC OS from Microsoft.

If you live in
Japan, or just like to pretend you do, or perhaps just like to lust
after some of their electronics options (there we go!), this "Week
with the Fujitsu F900IT" report on Dottocomu is not to be missed, as
Aragoto walks through the features of what is, arguably, DoCoMo's
nicest FOMA phone. It's also one of Japan's first phones to support
Bluetooth headsets, he says, something I was not aware was so lacking
-- maybe we're not as far behind in the game as we thought.
