Jeremy Will Inherit the Earth

Jeremy Will Inherit the Earth

Jeremy Will Inherit the Earth 03/13/2003 10:22 AM

According to Jeremy Rogers (no relation), on May 15, 2003, the arrival of Planet X between the Earth and Sun will stop the Earth's rotation and cause the North and South poles to shift. "You might want to consider wearing a hard hat during this period," he advises. (03-08)

The Green Party of Canada's living platform is their party platform... in Wiki form! It seems that only party members are able to participate in the Wiki, but the rest of us are still able to rank a plank and vote for their platform's priorities in the next election. Once the election date is set, party administrators will form the input into some sort of rough fixed platform, but until then, it's "what real democracy looks like".

Ron Jeremy Mobile with 'Groan Tones' 03/30/2005 09:10 AM

rjmobile.jpgSure, it's cliche, but how can you not love Ron Jeremy? He's like the Pope of Porn, except he brings his own feeding tube. Now the Hedgehog is following in the stiletto-heeled footsteps of Jenna Jameson's Wicked Wireless, offering 'Groan tones,' presumably ringtone clips of Ron doing him special business. We sort of have to fill in the cracks, so to speak, since RJ's site is currently pretty non-functional. Cool icon, though. I think it may be time for a new AIM icon.

Jeremy Bulloch's Flying Solo

Jeremy Bulloch's Flying Solo 05/19/2004 08:53 AM
Jeremy is visiting this week between Disney and an appearance in Austin TX and while here I asked if he had some of his new book Flying Solo: Tales of a Bounty Hunter with him I might offer up to our visitors so they could save some money on shipping from the UK. With the dollar as weak as it is against the Pound, saving something on postage can mean a lot. It sells on his site for $60 USD and $20 shipping and comes numbered and signed. $68 shipped to a US destination only please.
From JeremyBulloch.com: "Just released, a beautiful hardback book with its own slipcase, limited to 2000 copies, numbered and signed by Jeremy Bulloch. It tells the story of his life from a very early age through to the present. The book contains events from his early work as a child actor leading up to his latest project. His career is interwoven with tales from the many conventions he has attended as 'Boba Fett'. The book has also many interesting photographs from Jeremy's personal life and professional career."
He has five books for me. If you want one, please write and we'll arrange a PayPal.

decision
12/24/2004 01:11 PM
Microsoft today lost its appeal of the European Union ruling which requires it to -- among other things -- unbundle the Windows Media Player in order to level the playing field with other firms offering the same functionality for streaming audio and video. It must also make public the information required to allow others to interoperate with the Windows platform. But don't break out the champagne just yet. According to Jeremy Allison, the lead Samba.org developer, if the ruling doesn't preclude royalties, then the whole effort by the EU will turn out to have been a waste of time.

http://earthday.wilderness.org/

On April 22, 2005, people around the world will celebrate the 35th anniversary of Earth Day. This Topic in Depth focuses on the past and present of this significant day. From the Wisconsin Historical Society, the first two sites contain historical documents pertaining to Earth Day. The first (1) document features a May 1970 issue of The Gaylord Nelson Newsletter reporting on the first Earth Day. The second (2) document is a speech by Nelson entitled "An Environmental Agenda for the 70's." Housed in the archives of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) website, the next two sites also contain historical documents. The first (3) site contains an article written by Nelson for the EPA Journal in April of 1980, entitled "Earth Day '70: What It Meant." The second (4) site contains an article written by John C. Whitaker (former Interior undersecretary in the Nixon administration) for the EPA Journal in the summer of 1998. The article is entitled "Earth Day Recollections: What It Was Like When the Movement Took Off." The (5) Earth Day Network (first mentioned in the April 4, 2003, Scout Report for Life Sciences) works "to broaden the environmental movement worldwide and to educate and mobilize people, governments, and corporations to take responsibility for a clean and healthy environment." In addition to information sections about Ongoing Programs, Current Campaigns, and News, the Earth Day Network website contains Earth Day 2005 Materials for organizers. From EarthDay.gov, Take Action In Your Classroom (6) offers links to a variety of environmental education resources. The next website, from the U.S. Army Environmental Center, presents (7) Army Earth Day; and links to information about the Army's environmental activities. The final (8) site is an Earth Day-inspired educational website (first reported on in the April 14, 1999 Scout Report for Science & Engineering) from the Wilderness Society. The site offers a collection of environmental education resources for teachers and students. Rip, Mix, and Burn anything on earth

Rip, Mix, and Burn anything on earth 07/16/2004 11:57 PM

Today while I was at a web conference, a speaker used an incredible MIT Media Lab project as a demo during a talk. Check out the I/O brush project. The project appears to be a camera that can take a photo still or video of anything you point it at, then the captured images can be "painted" on a virtual canvas. It's essentially one giant derivative work creator.

Watch this Real Video demo of the I/O Brush in action

After you see it, you can see how incredible this technology is. I can't imagine when something like this would be a cheap, easily available tool, but I can imagine that parts of the technology may eventually show up in something. It takes the concept of rip, mix, and burn to whole new levels, creating new art works from anything else (including copyrighted art, text, and trademarked logos) and I wonder what the legal landscape will be like when this technology is readily available. Can you imagine the scorn this product will get from publishing companies, movie studios, and the like?

Every product is delivered to some spot and every service is performed at some coordinates. Every transaction involves at least one place and usually more than one. And yet, until recently,...

Investing in our Future

Investing in our Future 09/05/2004 01:16 PM

(This is also my Sunday column in the San Jose Mercury News.) As first a presidential candidate and now the Democratic vice presidential nominee, John Edwards has described the core of President Bush's economic policy: valuing wealth over work. ``President Bush has a war on work -- you see it in everything he does,'' Edwards said in a September 2003 speech. ``He wants to eliminate every penny of tax on wealth, and shift the whole burden to people who work for a living. So people won't pay any taxes at all when they make money from selling stocks, when they get big dividends every year, or when they inherit a massive estate.'' On the eve of Labor Day, the traditional kickoff to the fall presidential race, Edwards' point is worth noting. National tax policy -- to which both major parties adhere to a greater or lesser degree -- disfavors those of us who ``only'' work for a living. There's another way to look at this policy, which deserves broader discussion. Yes, it values wealth over work, but a key aim is to spur investment. More...
