Scientists Seek Map of Science by Dr David Whitehouse
http://ne ws.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/3608385.stm

Scientists need new ways to monitor the progress of science in the digital age, according to reports in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Science is the most interconnected of all human activities, they say, and requires a new series of maps to chart the changing scientific landscape. Knowledge has left books and libraries and is now changing more rapidly than ever before, say researchers. New ways of mapping science offer the prospect of new discoveries, they add.

Examples of this type pf mapping can be seen in my just updated posting on Research Browsers by clicking here or scrolling down on the links on the right side of my personal blog and click on Research Browsers.

Super Science Fair Projects: Complete Guide to Science Fair Projects, Topics and Experiments
http://www.super-sc ience-fair-projects.com/

Today your teacher announced that your school is going to have a science fair and students are responsible for exhibiting their projects. What do you feel? Enthusiastic? Despondent? Dreadful? Fearful? Excited?" This statement opens the Super Science Fair Projects site. Actually, whether student or parent, science fair projects, while great ways to get students actively involved in learning the scientific method and problem solving, can be tough assignments. This site may help you with one of the hardest parts: coming up with an idea. The site does a great job of walking the visitor through the steps needed to plan and implement a project, from Choosing a Topic, the Scientific Method, and writing the Project Report. There are even tips on displaying your project, rehearsing, winning over judges, and what to expect the day of the fair. This is definitely a great tool to tap into when planning a science fair project.[From The NSDL Scout Report for Math, Engineering, and Technology, Copyright Internet Scout Project 1994-2003. http://scout.wisc.edu/]

Rat Lab - Where All the Mad Scientists Go
http://www.ratlab.co.uk/

Ratlab is a non-profit website that was created to spread a little science love to pretty much anyone who will listen. The site design and most of the content is by Kat, a 25 year old Microbiology PhD student who really should be reading research papers instead of playing on the net. The future plan for Ratlab is to include more content from other young scientists. This has been added to Student Research Subject Tracer™ Information Blog.

Supercomputing Scientists

Supercomputing Scientists 01/16/2004 11:02 AM
When noted biologist David Botstein was lured from Stanford University to head the Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics at Princeton, he had his choice of computing systems, writes Matthew Herper for Forbes.com. But Botstein says he outfitted the center almost soup to nuts with Apple computers and servers, which are used for everything from desktop applications to comparing lengths of genetic code. By eschewing the more expensive workstations that high-tech biologists have come to rely on, he says he has also cut down on the cost of maintaining his number-crunching machines. [Jan 12]

AP - Two-thirds of divorces after age 40 are initiated by wives, debunking the myth of an older man divorcing his wife for a younger woman, a new survey shows. "That obviously happens, but mostly it's women who are asking for the divorce," said Steve Slon, editor of AARP the Magazine, on Tuesday. The magazine will publish the results Thursday in its July-August issue.
