Tea in pill form
Tea in pill form
03/24/2005 04:51 PMCory Doctorow:
Love the taste, fussiness and brown teeth of tea-drinking, but don't
have time to boil a kettle? No worries: tea in a pill!
Indian tea scientists have produced a tea-flavoured pill that can be
chewed or quickly dissolved in hot or cold water.
The brownish tablet weighs 0.3 grams and consists of 80 percent tea
and 20 percent other flavours -- a combination the inventors at the
Tocklai tea research centre in Assam say peps you up just like a
traditional cuppa.
"You can suck it, chew it or dissolve it in water the way you like to
have it and still feel the taste of a real cup of tea," said the
centre's director, Mridul Hazarika.

It’s a bit
silly, but silly is good for the kind of Monday I’ve had today.
First one to a full house shouts ‘foaf’.
Actually, I caught myself using foaf as real word in spoken
conversation the other day, as in ‘Oh, he’s a foaf of mine’.
I’m not sure, but I think that makes me very afraid. I bet it’ll
be in the Oxford English Dictionary as a real word within the next two
years…

It's just a term Suw. Like any other meme. It really doesn't
matter what it is, just as long as the message gets across. Sure the
term F-O-A-F is the wrong term for what a FOAdf file is.
And sure - it sounds allot like loaf, or stoaf or even goaf - but
at least it's something.
At least it's something NOT OWNED by Microsoft, Apple or Sun.
At least it's starting to work - as evidence from our FOAFnet.org efforts will start showing
up - real soon now.

Fat-destroying pill?
05/10/2004 10:17 AMOne way to treat obesity may be to starve the fat cells. University of
Texas researchers have designed a drug that selectively kils the blood
vessels that supply white fat cells. Massively fat mice given the drug
lost 30 percent of their weight in one month. Eventually, the
researchers told New Scientist, a similar approach could be used to
help obese humans.

01/16/2004 11:01 AMA new research paper
(PDF format) suggests that astrobiologists and geologists should work
in
a virtual world that extends their senses rather than using
traditional
approaches. The paper presents the argument using the Matrix films as
an
analogy. As an example, they offer the idea of a human with ViA
wearable
computer equipment that interfaces via neural network software to the
vision system of a Mars probe. (the software is named, appropriately,
the Neural
EditOr or NEO). The human and the computer each provide the types of
image processing they're good at resulting in some interesting
views. See the Cyborg
