issues and less time searching for them. The HepLink search portal was

websites and databases, consumer and patient resources, including
complimentary and alternative medicine, transplant, clinical trials
and health care provider resources, addiction resources, and
legislation, advocacy/policy, education, research, clinical practice

The Deep Web
06/25/2004 05:44 AMTHE DEEP WEBhttp://snipurl.com/78rrBecause search engines skim only the top layers of Web pages, they
miss most of what's available on what is called the "deep Web," and
there may be as many as 500 billion Web pages hidden from the view of
most search engines. Paul Duguid, co-author of "The Social Life of
Information," says: "Google searches an index at the first layers of
any Web site it goes to, and as you delve beneath the surface, it
starts to miss stuff. When you go deeper, the number of pages just
becomes absolutely mind-boggling." Librarians are now working with
Google and other search engines to solve that problem. Daniel
Greenstein of the University of California's California Digital
Library, the digital branch of the University of California notes: "If
you could use Google to just look across digital libraries, into any
digital library collection, now that would be cool. It would help
libraries achieve something that we haven't yet been able to achieve
by ourselves, which is to place all of our publicly accessible digital
library collections in a common pool." (New York Times 21 Jun 2004)[

Deep in the Closet
Deep in the Closet
03/14/2005 05:38 PMI am proud to be an American. Having said that, there is a lot about
my country I am also ashamed of. Perhaps a shining example of that
shame would be one Senator Rick Santorum. That a shitstain like this
could ever hold public office as high as he does is a travesty that
does not reflect well on my country. Now, before you object to me
calling the eminent gentleman a shitstain, well, I must inform you
that I am being completely accurate in my choice of words according to
the very serious, very scholarly, very staid American Dialect Society.
I am, of course, referring to the literal definition of the word
santorum. The ADS announced that this new word and its definition was
one of its 2004 Words of the Year. Now, how this word came to be
derived from the self-stated beliefs and political actions of the
Senator himself segues nicely into a psychological point I want to
make about flamingly homophobic men like Senator Rick Santorum. I
firmly believe that some of the most ardent anti-homosexual proponents
in this world are actually deeply closeted homosexuals themselves.
So, plug your nose and let us toss the psychosexual and
psychopolitical Santorum salad.
