htmlDeveloped at University College Cork, the Corpus
of Electronic Texts project is intended "to bring the wealth of Irish
literary and historical culture (in Irish, Latin, Anglo-Norman French,
and English) to the Internet in a rigorously scholarly project."
Additionally, the project is designed to be utilized by a wide group
of interested parties, including students, academics, and the general
public. Visitors may peruse the documents by language of original
publication, or by viewing a complete list of all the works currently
available (many in HTML or pdf format) from the project's website.
Some of the rather compelling works available here include the
complete works of Oscar Wilde, the political writings of Michael
Collins, and various historical documents regarding the struggle for
Irish independence. [From The Scout Report, Copyright Internet Scout

Retrieval by Oren Kurland and Lillian Leehttp:
//eprints.osti.gov/cgi-bin/dexpldcgi?qry1131250613;1Abstract by Authors:
Most previous work on the recently
developed language-modeling approach to information retrieval focuses
on document-specific characteristics, and therefore does not take into
account the structure of the surrounding corpus. We propose a novel
algorithmic framework in which information provided by document-based
language models is enhanced by the incorporation of information drawn
from clusters of similar documents. Using this framework, we develop a
suite of new algorithms. Even the simplest typically outperforms the
standard language-modeling approach in precision and recall, and our
new interpolation algorithm posts statistically significant
improvements for both metrics over all three corpora tested.

The U.S. economy around Bush's corner
08/27/2004 05:36 PMThe Commerce Department announced today that the U.S. economy grew by
only
2.8 percent
between April and June, a significant slowdown from the rate of
growth during the first three months of the year. On the eve of a
Republican Convention at which President Bush is likely to extol the
virtues of his tax cuts, the report offers yet another sign that
whatever lies around the corner that Bush keeps insisting the nation
is turning probably isn't a surge of prosperity.

It
12/19/2004 03:12 PMGeorge Bush got re-elected on the strength of two issues: the "War on
Terrorism" and "Moral Values." That's what motivated a decisive share
of the electorate to come out and vote. So, isn't it a bit surprising
that the two pillars of his agenda for the next term are tax reform
and social security reform? If I were a Bush supporter (which I'm
not), I would be scratching my head about now.

Bush's tax overhaul may be incremental
12/22/2004 01:34 AMPresident Bush's campaign to make the tax code simpler, fairer and
more pro-growth is likely to involve incremental changes to the
current system rather than a sweeping effort to scrap the venerable
income tax for a radically new approach, such as a national sales tax.

Bush Goal Was
Dodging War.
What matters to all our senses is that he is a
president who struts around as a war hero, who dodged Vietnam and most
of the National Guard drills and who with less shame than anybody we
have had maybe ever, sends your kids to a war that he ducked as if he
was allowed to do it by birth.McCain: Bush's first choice

where the $144 billion Bush wasted on the Iraq War could have been
spent on to protect
America from terrorists. Instead of fighting terror, Bush
fought in error, a
terrible error that cost us more than 1000 lives and all that
money without showing
any improvement in national security.

Bush's dead cat bounce
09/16/2004 07:05 PMA new national survey released this afternoon by the
Pew
Research Center has some bright news for the John Kerry campaign:
President Bush's "dramatic" charge ahead in the polls following the
Republican Convention lasted for, well, about a New York minute. The
new poll shows that the battle for the White House is once again
deadlocked:

g Bush Bush is rested and back on the campaign trail with his
new stump speech in hand. I now find the level of dissonance to be
somewhat amusing whereas it once angered me. Poking holes in what his
handlers write can be fun for you too! My personal favorite from the
current incarnation:
He said he's only going to raise the tax on the so-called rich.
But you know how the rich is, they've got accountants. That means you
pay. That means your small business pays. It means the farmers and
ranchers pay. That's the wrong medicine for this economy, and we're
not going to let him prescribe it. Bush's nose follows Esso
