great from the screenshots, which you’d expect from the Panic

On shopping with MacUser...
03/06/2004 01:55 AMThis is the second time it's happened and it's as weird as the
first. On the bus this morning I was reading the latest issue of MacUser (nice magazine redesign,
shame about the old-style Mac typeface in the logo) when I find myself
reading about myself.
Back in the real world, Tom Coates has been blogging from
his trip to Los Angeles, lamenting the lure of the Apple Store and
that all-so-familiar dilemma of need versus want. "The shoes that I
needed to replace last year at ETCon are still firmly on my feet. And
I have no new clothes of any sort. I do, however, have an enormous
pile of stuff from the AppleStore and a desperate salivating urge to
go back and blow another £200 on a new iPod. I only wish I could claim
to be surprised by this turn of events.
Weird. In case anyone is interested, I did not buy an iPod
after all, although I kind of wish I had. I bought an iSight, which I can recommend
whole-heartedly, some Apple earbuds that sucked ass with such
commensurate skill that they should set themselves up with a business
catering to the needs of Hollywood celebrities, and some rather useful
and not-available-here Apple-oriented screen-wipes. Since my return I
have bought myself shoes by the same
company as my last pair (I'm not a great shoes man) and basically
the same green as my last pair went after a couple of years. So in the
end, everything worked out OK, I guess...

plain-English scripting language called SuperTalk, and a rich array of
interface elements - buttons, sliders, tabs, fields and so on - and
graphics tools for creating custom, dynamic projects.

Unison TMS600 Flip-Screen Flash Player
Unison TMS600 Flip-Screen Flash Player
08/11/2004 09:58 AM
Okay, so you know how I'm
always saying that one of the main advantages of flash memory MP3
players would be oddly-shaped players that just can't be easily done
with hard drives, but with the exception of a few egg-shaped players
here and there it's mostly all the same stick things over and over?
Well, it looks like Korea's UnisonTech has the same idea, as their
TMS600 [pictured] and TM500 flash players are anything but ordinary
looking, with an floopy flip out screen on the TMS600 and a shape
reminiscent of a ninja star or caltrop in the tri-tipped TM500. Both
are available in sizes up to 2GB (the product page says 1GB, but I've
got an inside track that says otherwise).

Nikon Coolpix S1
Nikon Coolpix S1
03/17/2005 03:52 AM
Out of seemingly nowhere emerges the Nikon Coolpix
S1, obviously a stab at recent offerings from Casio and Sony (think
Exilim and Cybershot T series). But gee whiz, I had no idea a Nikon
could look anything like this — it has a 5.1MP CCD and 0.75"
thick aluminum body. Estimated at around 45,000 yen, the S1 provides
3x optical zoom, a boatload of photographic features I'm having a hard
time translating like "Face Clear Function", a 2.5" monitor and SD
memory card slot. Expect to see the S1 available in three colors:
Metal Silver, Dolce Black and Cream White.

Nikon D2x announced
Nikon D2x announced
09/16/2004 01:47 AMDPReview are the first with an official announcement. Rob Galbraith
has a review already. Earlier this evening someone had the Nikon
Brochure (local copy) online. He also had a bunch of pictures of the
camera. The talk on d1scussion is positive so far. In extra geeky
news, the wireless add-on is now 802.11g rather than 802.11b. In
stranger news they also announced a new professional film SLR, the F6!
Except for that japanese site I can't find anything about that...
Nikon Adds 802.11g
Nikon Adds 802.11g
09/16/2004 01:02 PMNikon's new 12 megapixal camera will feature an 802.11g adapter
option: Nikon currently enables 802.11b access but the new adapter
option will allow the faster transmission of photos. The wireless
access combined with software enables wireless remote control from a
laptop of the camera. The camera, without the Wi-Fi adapter, is
expected to cost a whopping $5,000. The previous version of the camera
costs around $3,000 but sold very well to its target professional
audience. A review of the 802.11b version offers more details on what
Wi-Fi connectivity means for photographers....

Nikon D2X, 12.4-Megapixel DSLR
Nikon D2X, 12.4-Megapixel DSLR
09/16/2004 05:52 AM
Nikon has finally announced the successor to their
D1X and boy, does it look hot! Called the D2X (surprise!), the
defining feature of the new DSLR is a 12.4-megapixel CMOS sensor that
can shoot up to five frames per second at its highest resolution, but
can also be bumped down to 6.8-megapixel to increase its framerate to
8 per second. In addition, Nikon has updated their Wi-Fi transmitter
for the camera; the WT-2 has both 802.11b/g support and "Capture
Control," giving you the ability to control the shutter of the camera
from a PC or other mobile device.

Nikon not abandoning 35mm -- yet
Nikon not abandoning 35mm -- yet
11/18/2003 12:42 PMTurned out to be completely untrue, but last week a Japanese newspaper
reported that Nikon was planning to kill their line of 35mm compact
cameras and go entirely digital. Though you gotta wonder how long
it'll be until one of the big manufacturers does decide to exit the
consumer 35mm camera business entirely. Can't be more than a year or
two. Read...
