JavaServer Faces

JavaServer Faces helps streamline your web development through the use of UI components and events. JSF components (buttons, text boxes, etc.) live between user requests. JSF also synchronizes user input with application objects, automating another tedious aspect of web development. By Manning Publications 1123

A first look at JavaServer Faces, Part 1

A first look at JavaServer Faces, Part 1 01/06/2003 11:38 PM
JavaServer Faces (JSF) is an application framework for creating Web-based user interfaces. If you are familiar with Struts (a popular open source JSP-based Web application framework) and Swing (the standard Java user interface framework for desktop applications), think of JavaServer Faces as a combination of those two frameworks. Like Struts, JSF provides Web application lifecycle management through a controller servlet; and like Swing, JSF provides a rich component model complete with event handling and component rendering. -- David Geary "btn" Also read this discussion on JSF with the authors of the spec. This looks very interesting. I like it a lot because it appears more natural than MVC. Some of the ideas on designing user interfaces are very similar to what we have done in our commercial software, phpLens. I also suspect that a careful blending of the best features of JavaServer Faces and MVC could result in a more flexible application framework. Anyone in the PHP world want to take up the challenge? But first we have to find a better name than JavaServer Faces... "zeldman.tat"

FOAF Vocabulary Specification

FOAF Vocabulary Specification 02/01/2005 09:20 PM
FOAF Vocabulary Specification
http://xmlns.com/foaf/ 0.1/#sec-foafvocab

The FOAF project is based around the use of machine readable Web homepages for people, groups, companies and other kinds of thing. To achieve this they use the "FOAF vocabulary" to provide a collection of basic terms that can be used in these Web pages. At the heart of the FOAF project is a set of definitions designed to serve as a dictionary of terms that can be used to express claims about the world. The initial focus of FOAF has been on the description of people, since people are the things that link together most of the other kinds of things they describe in the Web: they make documents, attend meetings, are depicted in photos, and so on. The FOAF Vocabulary definitions presented here are written using a computer language (RDF/OWL) that makes it easy for software to process some basic facts about the terms in the FOAF vocabulary, and consequently about the things described in FOAF documents. A FOAF document, unlike a traditional Web page, can be combined with other FOAF documents to create a unified database of information. This has been added to World Wide Web Reference Subject Tracer™ Information Blog.
