Like a phoenix from the ashes, Napster has come back not once, but twice it seems. Since Roxio bought the Napster name and logo a couple years ago at a bankruptcy auction, Napster received a new "lease on life". This time around Napster isn't just a service, it's to become a public company and will be traded on the stock exchange.

Roxio has recently sold off it's CD-burning software business in a move to concentrate solely on selling music online. Using Napster as it's company name, it will allow Roxio to compete with other online music delivery services from the likes of Microsoft, Yahoo!, and Apple.

Roxio's sale of its software business landed them a cool $80 million in cash and stocks which will give Napster a cash base of more than $100 million once the deal closes, expected by year's end.

"One of the most important questions for our investors is, 'Does Napster have the staying power to stay and thrive?' Having the cash answers that question," said Chris Gorog, chief executive and chairman of Roxio.

It will be more than enough to cover Napster until it becomes profitable, Gorog said, "and we're on a clear path to do that."

Tweaktown has managed to get some nice photos of the prototype GeForce 7. According to the site this prototype is not a working card, but it shows what kind of size and architecture they are going to be using for the next series of GeForce cards.<blockquote>"Today during Computex 2005 we managed to find one of nVidia’s very scarce upcoming codename G70 graphics cards. A reader of ours got to play around with AT&T's new OGO instant messaging tool over the weekend and sent us these snaps of the box and the device itself. It definitely has Bluetooth and a USB port, but I think the most interesting bit is that you have to pay extra money if you want to use all three IM services (AOL, MSN, and Yahoo!). That is, of course, unless they mean that you can have three OGOs on one account for just $6 more a month - that seems a little too generous to me.

Tossing back two shots of coffee each hour may provide more sustainable stimulation than gulping down a large cup in the morning, scientists from Rush University Medical Center report in the journal Sleep. In the study, sixteen men stayed in windowless rooms for nearly a month while the researchers screwed with their circadian rhythms. From a Scientific American article about the findings:

"In the new study, the scientists... tested the effects of administering an hourly, low dose of caffeine equivalent to about two ounces of coffee to one group, while the second group received a placebo. The caffeinated men performed better on cognitive tests than the control individuals did, and dozed off less often. And though they received the same cumulative dose as subjects in previous, single-dose studies, taking many small doses minimized some of the negative side effects that caffeine can have, such as tremors."
