mitsubishi_ogl.jpg.jpg image3D gaming and cellular phones have remained separate for some time now. I think the only "solutions" I've seen are related to Java. [Things like J2ME, for instance. - ed]

Now Mitsubishi, famous for the Japanese Zero and teenager-aimed car advertisements has created a fully OpenGL ES Ver. 1.0 software library for phones that runs under the company's Z3D3 engine. The combination of this graphics engine and software library allows for up to 1 million polygons per second to be processed. Just for comparison, a modern-but-not-insane PC video card like the Radeon 9800 can do 380 million polygons at a time. But hey, it's a phone, what do you expect? Also, resolutions up to 512 x 512 pixels are supported, so you may even see something like this on a PDA type device.

Mitsubishi LVP-XD450 Projector

Mitsubishi LVP-XD450 Projector 08/04/2004 07:49 AM

mitsubishi_proj.jpg imageIf a DLP (digital light processing) projector is your cup of tea, Mitsubishi's announcement of the "LVP-XD450" should be your cup of coffee. According to Mitsubishi, this new projector has the industry's highest brightness and contrast ratio (2,600 Lumens and 2,200:1 respectively; don't know about "highest," but that is pretty good). And since the projectors are rated at screens up to 200-inch, I would be fully willing to review one of these units for anyone who has one on hand, provided you also supply the screen. I doubt my computer could actually run Doom III at this projector's 1280 x 1024 resolution, but Pinkydemons would still be life-sized.

proj_pocket_lrg.jpgWe don't usually cover projectors (they're really boring), but here's an Smurf-sized projector with a lot of moxie. It weighs less than a pound and uses three LEDs to pound a 250 LUX picture into that enclosed space. Mitsubishi suggests using the projector in a car or boat, but if you have enough room to project a video in your car, then you need to rethink your priorities.

Available in both 2- and 4-door versions, the UK importer ZEV Ltd. plans to sell around 350 of the units in the next 18 months. Skinplex is a new commercial technology that uses the human body as a conductor of data. According to an article in EE Times, the developers, German start-up Ident Technoogy AG, hope to compete with RFID, Bluetooth, and Near Field Communications (NFC) for some applications:
Skinplex technology could be used between an identifier worn on the user's body and a receiver integrated into a car, for example. A distinct code is transmitted through touch, the receiver recognizes its dedicated, authorized sender, and the car door is opened, for example.
