All alone in the night

All alone in the night 03/06/2004 02:03 AM
Bad day. Two unscheduled meetings, one scheduled, but failed meeting, far too much email, far too much confusion, lost laptop, and to top it all off, an unnecessary ride back home to check whether I left the iron on.

The trams and stars don't care. They just travel on their paths, unaware of the problems of the insignificant little creatures that happen to be traveling along.

Well frankly, last night was bloody good fun. I'm just going to throw out a quick good morning to David Galbraith, Jish, Heather, Derek, Ben & Mena, Rebecca B, Lance, Sippey, Webb, Ezra, Jim Speth, Ben Cerveny, Min Jung and the other million other people who I can't quite focus on or remember at this precise moment because of slightly too many cocktails with long straws.

Night All

Ok.  Its officially now 19 straight hours at the keyboard.  The last database update for today is done.  The database is up to 14818 posts, 1309 rss urls and all seems well and good.  Am I 100% happy?  Of course not.  There's like a zillion and one things to do but "bit by bit" you know.

I'll be online and grinding on this all day tomorrow I suspect.

Burns Night

Burns Night 01/23/2004 02:22 PM
Bu rns Night. 'Robert Burns: poet and balladeer, Scotland's favourite son and champion of the common people. Each year on January 25, the great man's presumed birthday, Scots everywhere take time out to honour a national icon. Whether it's a full-blown Burns Supper or a quiet night of reading poetry, Burns Night is a night for all Scots.'

David Letterman-style, Glynn Taylor of HotSpotVPN.com released his top ten list of reasons to secure your network traffic this holiday season: 10. Your Dad won’t know what web sites you've visited. 9. You will never have to change your email settings again. 8. Your traffic is encrypted at every hotspot; free, paid or stumbled upon. 7. You can improve on WEP without buying new hardware. 6. You can keep the neighbor’s script kiddy brats out of your Internet traffic. 5. You can say you took one more step to prevent identity theft. 4. You can easily encrypt your traffic when attached to someone else’s network. 3. You can safely plug in at a hotel without other guests reading your email. 2. You can prevent "wiretaps" on your VOIP calls. 1. Your Mom won't know what web sites you’ve visited....

What a day and half a night!

What a day and half a night! 06/25/2004 07:09 AM

Well I have had one heck of day woke up this morning to agonizing back pain stretched for a while to try and get the back to loosen up. Went downstairs and found the meds the doc had stocked me up on. A OxyCooden and a Flexeril and 20 minutes later I was doing much better. After a 2 hour nap I am up trying to get some work done. Start off and play around with Top Style and Homesite deciding that I still like Hotmetal better for regular html stuff but Top Style is the ticket for CSS. Went ahead and paid for that over the web and no I don't have to deal with the trial nags.

About 2 this afternoon I decide I have the templates and the CSS cleaned up as much as it is gonna be on the MT3 Test site and decide to roll the production to MT3 along with a couple of other sites I run. Start backups of the 2.6 site along with downloading the databases etc. Between a run to the pharmacy dinner and messing with the kids. This site is now running MT3. I then decided to do some house cleaning on the Laptop as I have been abusing it for the past 2 months and needed to get all of the software I have bought along with all of the programs that I decided where not worth it de-installed and general file organization. Burn a couple of Master DVD's etc etc etc. So here I am at 1:45am Hawaiian time and I am ready to see what has happened in the tech world news. No wonder my wife calls me nuts sometimes.

But I will tell you one thing that I have been able to get done while recovering from spine surgery is that I am remote logging into all of my machines and getting them organized and sync'd. Wife said her PC has not run this good in a couple of years. Amazing what you can get done when you have nothing but time on your hands.

In Tustin for the Night

In Tustin for the Night 03/08/2004 11:22 PM
Ray and I headed down to Southern California today. We left my new place around 8:30am and arrived in Huntington Beach so that I could collect some equipment, drop off a check, and do the necessary paperwork to become the new owner of N304GT. We're staying with Steve in Tustin, who's an amazing host. He prepared a most excellent grill feast for us this evening: beer, shrimp, peppers, steak, and more! I'm sooooo stuffed. Tomorrow morning we'll head to Hemet...

Night Windows 05/25/2004 01:33 PM
"Time passes, or rather doesn't pass. It is just there, solid as a coffee mug on the diner's counter. Time hangs like the reek of old tobacco in the hotel furniture". We all think we know Edward Hopper's images, even if we've never seen his paintings. Somehow the solidity of the world -- even the sky is like a wall -- is at odds with the transience of the people in it, however long they sit and stand and wait. Hopper's people, like Manet's figures , often appear consumed by the irreducible business of being. Hopper, too, would descend into his own silences, would delay himself in self-doubt... Happened last night

Happened last night 09/20/2004 12:17 PM
I remember dreaming that something was lost. I woke in the middle of the night, not knowing what or why I was seeking so desperately. Something was missing, and I could not say what.

Then I found it on the floor, where it had apparently fallen off the bed during the night.

I lifted it and put it back next to my pillow where it belongs, and fell back to a dreamless sleep. With a smile on my face.

I wonder... How long can one shirt keep her scent?

Old Hippie Night 05/31/2004 12:36 PM

They were literally rolling the old hippies (Baba Ram Das) around in wheelchairs athe 13th Digital Be-In on Saturday night.

I was there to talk about DLAs, and in typical fashion someone didn't show up, so they moved me up the schedule - which of course then meant that none of the people who came to hear me - could - as they thought I was coming on later.

The EFF, Creative Commons and danah boyd were there - too.

Well God Bless Michael Gosney anyway.  I got to see some old friends - such as Tony Bove (otherwise known as T-Bone) - pictured to the right, along with Brad DeGraf.

Brad's been working on the Media Venture Collective - which is an org to help kids to upload their video work onto the web.

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the site, Not a poster was stirring, not even to fight; Ante and Don were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that Spymac 3 would soon be there; The members were nestled all snug in their beds While visions of new features danced in their heads; And Kristie in her 'kerchief and Atari in cap, Had just settled down for a long winters nap.
