03/15/2003 10:15 PMIf there is anybody out there who has actually beaten Jecht in FFX
and won the game, I'd love some tips/pointers. I have played that
final boss battle over and over again, and every time I get beat down
when he enters his second form. I simply can't keep my characters
alive and take out the towers and damage Jecht all at the same time.
What am I missing?

Final Fantasy: Before Crisis Beta
Testing, Gain Magic from Cameraphone

We don't normally talk about games here, but I think this
is a worthwhile exception. Japanese RPG gamers will be elated to hear
that Square Enix has begun beta testing of "Before Crisis: Final
Fantasy 7" today. Or actually, you probably should be even more
jealous - this game is only being offered to the small community of
people that own one of five particular NTT DoCoMo 900i series phone
models.
Still, we can dream, or better, whine about it to Squeenix. Set in
the Final Fantasy 7 world, "Before Crisis" takes place 6 years before
"Final Fantasy 7." Players can choose from either male or female
characters, who have different weapons. Regardless of whom you choose,
though, your character will be a member of ShinRa's elite group: the
Turks.
But here's the cool part. One feature of the phone game is the
"Materia Generator," which allows you to use your phone's camera to
somehow create Materia to be used in the game. Unfortunately, not even
the official site goes into any detail whatsoever, but it sounds at
least momentarily diverting, if nothing else.
If they don't release a localized English version of this game,
they're nuts.

Review: Final Cut Express HD
06/17/2005 04:34 PMWith consumer-level HD cameras still costing between $2,000 and
$5,000, most video enthusiasts haven‘t walked through the HD
door—but they’re certainly eyeing the possibilities. And
Apple is more than happy to welcome them to the party with Final Cut
Express HD.

Review: Final Cut Studio
06/24/2005 09:36 PMIn PC Magazine, Jan Ozer gives Final Cut Studio 4.5 out of 5, writing,
Apples Final Cut Studio should prove irresistible for
business pros and videographers getting started with video production
on the Mac. The attractively priced (for this class) suite includes
Final Cut Pro 5, Motion 2, DVD Studio Pro 4, and a new audio editor,
Soundtrack Pro all of which are capable of fairly sophisticated
production chores that should suit the needs of all but broadcast
professionals. Also, new features added to the three legacy products
should make many current users consider upgrading. [Jun 24,

Macworld review: Final Draft 7
07/27/2004 04:41 PMIt can safely be argued that Final Draft is the industry-standard
application for script writers. But while Final Draft 7 adds a few
nice features to the program's repertoire, this buggy new version
doesn't live up to its predecessors' good reputation.

04/21/2004 02:11 AMSoftware companies nearly always build new versions of software on top
of old versions, a practice similar to the way you'd add a second
story to a too-small house. But in Final Cut Express 2.0's case, Apple
moved to a completely new neighborhood, scrapping Final Cut Express
1.0 and basing its successor on Final Cut Pro 4, which included
performance and audio-related improvements, as well as real-time
effects previews. Now intermediate DV enthusiasts will benefit
directly from these great new features and pay less than a third of
Final Cut Pro's price.

Nokia 770 Disappoints
Nokia 770 Disappoints
06/17/2005 03:19 PMI wrote a story about my brief experience playing around with the
Wi-Fi enabled Nokia 770 tablet: I've been in Helsinki the past couple
of days at Nokia's annual journalist schmooze-fest. Surprisingly
though, there's been quite a bit of news coming out of the event.
Also, they had a demo room that included some early versions of the
Nokia 770 Internet tablet. I'm not totally sure (the PR person I asked
couldn't say for sure) but I think this is the first time that Nokia
has offered a peak at the actual device. When it was launched, I think
all the coverage came from paper. Anyway, I tried to be level in this
review but generally I was pretty disappointed. Everything about it
was agonizingly slow. I have no idea if that is because these are
early versions or if this is how the final products will be. I got
basically typical answers from spokespeople about how it will improve
but no evidence about why or specific changes that were being made to
make the experience better. There was plenty of discussion among my
fellow journalists here about the slowness. It's hard to get past that
aspect because it made the whole experience so not pleasant. In
addition to slow response time, downloading Web pages was also quite
slow. The 770 comes with built-in Wi-Fi so should have been fast but
it was a lot like using 3G on a cell phone or PDA. That of course
could have been due to an overloaded network at the conference center.
Or it could be related to overall slow processing speeds on the
device. I think the best prospects for the Nokia 770 come from the
broadband operators and future versions of the device. They could sell
or package it to end users. Next year's software is expected to enable
voice over IP and instant messaging, two applications that could make
the 770 more attractive to users....

Mark Frauenfelder:
My buddy Carlo Longino tried the battery-powered Mach 3 Turbo razor.
He says it's not worth the $15. Too bad, I was going to buy one.
I switched to this from the Mach 3 Turbo, and frankly, I
can't tell any difference between the shave I get with the two.
Certainly not enough to justify the difference in price. I guess I've
got loyalty to Gillette since they sent me a free Sensor razor on my
18th birthday or something (that ploy worked, eh?) and I've generally
been pretty happy with their products and the results. But their
constant need to find some reason to jack up the already-high prices
of their razors is starting to wear thin.rally been pretty happy with
