Linux sophistication
07/06/2004 04:49 PM
In his first 18 months as general manager of IBM's worldwide Linux team, Jim Stallings has seen dozens of corporate shops and governments around the world push Linux from the periphery to the heart of their IT strategies -- never a bad thing for job security when you have the word "Linux" in your title. But with the open source operating system now more firmly entrenched, the next challenge for Stallings and his team is to help Linux drive IBM's companywide On Demand initiative deeper into corporate accounts with one hand while fighting the ongoing server battle against Windows with the other.

Belkin PureAV Wireless Video Transmitter

Belkin PureAV Wireless Video Transmitter 09/15/2004 06:07 AM

PRN1_AV55000.jpg imageFor something that costs $500 and has 40Mbit of wireless bandwidth at its disposal, you'd think the Belkin PureAV could do a little better than SDTV signal (Standard Definition), even if it does have component input and output. Basically a wireless wire, the PureAV is designed to let you transmit video signal up to 350 feet (depending on interference, like walls, or hurricanes). And it looks like it is compressing the signal via MEPG2 before it beams it, which probably isn't that big a deal, but come on! How could anyone drop $500 on something these days that can't at least support higher resolution formats? Maybe there's something going on here I'm missing.

Oh, here are the last four DiscHub codes. What a fun contest. We'll definitely do this again: RFG987 FIG398 2587RT RE58TH

Rebecca Blood s tarted a new feature on her site, setting out to interview bloggers about how they got started, why they do what they do, and what others can learn from that. I was lucky enough to be the first one, and she's posted part one of our interview (part two will be posted Friday).

If you also blog, you'll probably find something useful in it. It was good to talk to Rebecca and get into some hearty questions (mostly in part 2). I'm used to doing interviews with reporters writing for a general audience so it was refreshing to get really specific weblog-oriented questions directed at me.
