05/10/2004 11:11 PMPC World editors evaluate eight wireless mice and keyboards, and
Bluetooth's advantage is nowhere to be seen: The editors generally
preferred less expensive, more responsive, easier-to-configure RF
devices that use proprietary protocols. Their favorite Bluetooth set
is $250, which is steep, but it was the best they found in the bunch.

Microsoft's Fall Keyboard and Mouse
Lineup Revealed
08/16/2004 06:03 PM
ActiveWin got a hold of Microsoft's Fall mouse and
keyboard lineup, if that's the sort of thing that gets you going.
Although for the most part the new peripherals look like more of the
same (which isn't necessarily bad), at least two of the products - the
"Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer with Fingerprint Reader Windows USB"
and the "Optical Desktop with Fingerprint Feature USB" - feature a
biometric security fingerprint scanner (presumably with accompanying
software).
Even better, it looks like on at least two of the keyboards they've
gone back to the standard arrow key cross, delete/insert group, and
function key layout. (Thanks, Christoph!)

computer section, where I found myself impulse-buying
The Mouse BT from some
outfit I’ve never heard of called DVForge. It’s Bluetooth and
looks like an Apple mouse, only it’s got two buttons (the way this
is accomplished seems to rely on bending acrylic in a really clever
way) plus a scrollwheel. It’s slick, slick, slick; and looks neat. I
bought the Aluminum model but now that I realise there’s a white
version too I think that would look better. On top of looking nice,
the scrollwheel is the smoothest I’ve used. I’m kind of worried
how fast it’ll go through batteries; I’ll report back when I know.

...if you're smart, you'll realize that the best way to preserve your
honor is to keep your mouth shut and let others share their opinions
of your work. They don't like it? They hate it, and want to say so
publicly? Well! Welcome to public life! If you don't like it, there
are plenty of dishwashing jobs available! If you're all that angry,
arrange for your label not to send them promos in the future. But
pissing matches with the guy who wrote the review? Ones in which, God

Giz
modo had this snapshot of what is reportedly Apple's new iMac G5. It's supposed to
be released next week, but somebody got a sneak peek in an elevator at
Charles DeGaulle Airport. Looks to
be little more than a thick flat panel monitor, with the computer's
guts tucked behind the screen.
I would think that would be an easy build — just use the
basic parts from a laptop unit, wrap it with a spiffy new skin, jam in
a G5 processor and the proper cooling mechanisms, and there you have
it.

20" iMac
20" iMac
11/18/2003 11:24 PMThe
20" iMac doesn't look as
ungainly as I would expect, but it's still surprising. Is there really
a market for a slow Mac with a big screen? Apple used the introduction
of the dual 1.8GHz G5 as an excuse to quietly replace its bogus SPEC
benchmarks with
something more
realistic. (But you know someone is going to say, "Why didn't they
compare against the dual 3.2GHz xw8000? It's been out for three
hours!")

The Sub-$500 iMac?
12/29/2004 11:38 AMThis could be fun! Think
Secret says they know
what The Steve
will be unveiling at the January 11 Macworld Expo: a bare bones,
G4-based iMac without a display that will retail for $499.
This new product will be for a Windows user who has experienced the
iPod, the ease of use of the iTunes software, and has played around
with a Mac at an Apple retail store just long enough to know he'd buy
one if it were a little cheaper.
Code name Q88, the machine is said to be very small and designed to
either go underneath a monitor or stand upright, alongside a second
computer. The guys over at MacSlash
are hoping that it will also have a built-in KVM that will allow PC
switchers to run the iMac side-by-side with their existing PC, using
the same keyboard, mouse & monitor. That might be a little much to
hope for, but if the rest is true, that might shake things up a bit,
don't you think?
