Jeffrey McManus is coming to Yahoo! 04/14/2005 02:25 AM
Kick Ass! I'm technically on vacation this week, but I happened to notice that Jeffrey McManus is coming to Yahoo! (from eBay, where he ran their developer program). We've got some great stuff in store, and having him around will make a lot of it much easier. Jeffrey, welcome to Yahoo!...

OK - from my own experiences and POV I can say this:

- Media RSS is the leadership we need in media, subscribing and the web. That's what podcasting needs. We're gonna support it in ourmedia.org and we hope others will too.

- Russell Beattie has been helping out in an organization now called Mobile Monday. He brings clear leadership in mobile to Yahoo - just by his sheer presence.

- Jeremy Zawodny is one of those bloggers who groks it all, has a great day job and smirks his way all the way to the A-list. The best part is that he's got a viewpoint that Yahoo is starting to listen to.

- Then came a Terry Semel quote: "sure we'll make a lot of money off of Hollywood, but we'll make more money off of end-users content."

So I'm digging more on Yahoo every day. I've been using MyYahoo since the 2nd month it was available. We'll always make sure that Yahoo data will flow through OUR Digital Lifdestyle Aggregators (DLAs) - as long as they allow the data to flow. It would be nice to have APIs to ALL the stuff - BTW dudes......

And just the notion of Stewart, Caterina and Ben roaming the hallways of Yahoo brings a smile to my lips like an acid trip multi-player rave insider's game meets astro-boy right next door to Lockheed kind of scene.

So right on t o Om - once again - he's rocking the house and telling it like it is......

The Online Marketing Connection Makes
Major Ranking Position Take Over At
Yahoo Search Following A Google Move
12/31/2004 10:49 AM
Yahoo has lifted Online Marketing Connection to number two listing under the heading, "Online Marketing Connection." It was very surprising to see after Google took the leading support for so long. It appears Yahoo has found a niche in search engine strategy that far exceeds Googles. [PRWEB Dec 28, 2004]

Yahoo 360 is putting Copyright 2005
Yahoo on Personal Blog Entries
03/30/2005 01:16 AM

It was brought to my attention today that Yahoo is copyrighting the RSS feeds for those that are setting up Yahoo 360 accounts. Some are already refusing to use the service because in a sense Yahoo now owns your content.

This may be a oversight on Yahoo's part and I hope it is, I will probaly use their service anyway but probably not the blog portion and give them some time to answer these issues. [Yahoo 360 Copyrights Personal RSS Feeds]

Major Testing Ahead

Major Testing Ahead 06/14/2004 10:55 PM
It used to be that web designers and webmasters need to test their results on a multiple of web browsers -- even when there are standards, and even when the web pages conform to the standards. This is still true today.
However, for those of us living on the "bleeding edge", we now have to add a variety of RSS aggregators to the list of viewers to test -- even when there are standards, and even when the RSS feeds conform to the standards.
I've been reading my own RSS feeds on Bloglines (highly recommended, by the way), and so far, it is working fine. But just yesterday, I've received a bug report regarding reading my RSS feeds on NetNewsWire. Once I find the time -- sorry, but you do know that running MyAppleMenu is not my day job, right? :-) -- I'll have to install another application on my Mac to test my website. And, most likely, I'll have to regularly check for errors on both Bloglines (easy, as I use this regularly anyway) and NetNewsWire Lite (not so easy as this is yet another task to do when I get home at night).
And who knows how many other RSS aggregators out there that have a problem with my feed?
(Oh yes, when I last check this morning, my RSS feeds conforms to the 2.0 specs.)
Fifteen years ago, when I compose e-mails, I do not have to check against multiple e-mail readers such as mail and elm and pine. And I probably still don't need to if I stick to plain text e-mails.
Okay, enough ranting. (Sorry.) Time to get back to work. And, by the way, thanks for the bug report. I'll get on it as soon as possible once I get the time.

WiFi's Major Limitations 02/11/2004 01:30 PM
I'm in a hotel ballroom listening to a fascinating speech by Microsoft's Marc Smith. A majority of the crowd (about 400 people, I'd guess) are using laptop computers to take notes and/or work online. But the WiFi network is extremely slow, when it works at all. The people running this conference are professionals, and totally competent at putting the technology together. The continuing problems they're having with the WiFi network tell me that this is one technology that still has a whole lot of room for improvement.

The Nasdaq finished the week off 1.7 percent at 2,007.79, its lowest close of the year. At one point during the week, the Nasdaq dropped below 2,000 for the first time in more than four months.
