Alienware DHS-300 Media Center PC 05/17/2004 07:40 AM
Although the good news of this little black slab of media center was spoken last week, it kept getting pushed back with all the E3 hoohah, but it definitely merits a mention. The DHS-300 is Alienware's update of their EPC line, tossing away the Shuttle XPC case for this sleek...

Alienware Media Center 08/02/2004 01:29 PM

Alienware is innovating again, this time with an all-in-one, wall-mountable 30-inch TFT/LCD widescreen TV with an integrated Windows Media Center PC inside. Al ienware DHD systems, which are based on Hy-Tek's TekPanel 300 enclosure, will feature “Intel Pentium 4 processors up to 3.4 GHz and the Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 operating system. ATI Radeon graphics, configurable up to X800 XT Platinum Edition with 256MB DDR3 video RAM, and optical drives up to 12x DVD±R/RW, provide an unparalleled cinematic experience. Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound completes the package with superior audio quality.”

We not sure how popular this type of TV/PC combo device will be, but “Microsoft is excited about the introduction of Alienware DHD systems,” said Brad Brooks, Director of Marketing for the Windows XP Consumer Product Line at Microsoft Corp. “The integration of Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 within a self-contained, multi-functional LCD panel is a great example of the innovative designs that consumers are demanding that change the way they can experience digital media in the home.”

At first glance, this TV/PC concept may seem very appealing, but will consumers be ready to spend $6,500 - 8,000 on a flat panel TV that will have an outdated computer components inside it in the next two to three years?

Big, Bad, Behemoth Alienware Laptop 12/22/2004 01:39 AM
Review: Too large to be really called a laptop, the latest Alienware behemoth is aimed squarely as a desktop replacement. Think of it as a small form factor PC with attached display. Offering a 3.6GHz Pentium 4 and Geforce Go 6800, the Area-51M 7700 targets the hearts and minds of gamers.

Alienware Rebrands TekPanel as 'DHD'

Alienware Rebrands TekPanel as 'DHD' 08/02/2004 02:08 PM

alienware_dhd_system.jpg image

Alienware has a new line of Windows Media Center PCs that are integrated into flat-panel displays which they're calling "DHD" systems (You know, Digital Home, errr, uhm) but you may know as Hy-Tek's TekPanel of The Apprentice fame. So despite Alienware's claims of "innovation," there's not a whole lot new to see here; it's a PC stuffed into a 5-inch deep large-screen LCD TV. That's nice and all, but as eHomeUpgrade's Alexander Grundner rightfully asks, is it really worth paying eight grand and up for an all-in-one unit when the computer part of it will be obsoleted in a couple of years?

I guess if you're already shopping at Alienware, you're not really looking for value in the first place.

Alienware Area-51m 7700 Reviewed 12/22/2004 01:36 AM

a51-7700.jpg imageAlienware machines are overpriced and over-hyped, but you've got to admit, when they go top-end they usually do it right. Jason Cross over at ExtremeTech reviews their latest desktop replacement laptop, the Area-51m 7700, and it's pretty impressive—as it should be, since it forgoes most laptop parts and actually uses desktop chips crammed inside its not-so-portable 12-pound chassis. What you get in the end is a laptop that should rarely leave your desk, but provides most of the functionality of a full-size PC. Look, it even comes with all the fans of a regular-sized PC.
