First flight

First flight 06/05/2005 11:32 PM

My boys Alex(8) and Linus(6) didn't know until this morning, but today they're about to take their first airplane ride. Their mom's taking them down to Orlando to see uncle Chris compete in the Florida Half-Ironman and spend a day at Universal Studios. I'm staying home with Leo(2). I told them the news this morning and Alex's response was classic Alex: "awww, I don't wanna to miss school for two whole days." Linus, who consistently plays Pig Will to Alex's Pig Won't, was ecstatic.

The Visualization Portal's default description page starts off kind of slow and ho-hum, with some pretty basic and dated looking graphics. And even a little weird, artsy. The actual main news page is better. The Visualization Portal is nearly a Heinlein-esque 3D 3D visualization tank. These pics of past events are cool. You can visit the portal at UCLA for free.

Boeing in Flight

Boeing in Flight 05/18/2004 01:17 AM
It's not "What Hath God Wrought," but it's historic nonetheless: Connexion by Boeing launched its first commercial flight today, with flight 452 on Lufthansa flying from Munich to Los Angeles. The press release and photo were filed (also a first) from the flight at 35,000 feet. Connexion's commercial launch of a single plane is significant, but Lufthansa won't finish unwiring its 80 planes in its long-haul fleet until the end of 2006. In fact, it's possible that fewer than a dozen planes out of a few hundred committed will be ready to go this year.
