MailScanner 4.40 (Default branch)

MailScanner 4.40 (Default branch) 04/02/2005 06:56 AM
Screenshot MailScanner is an email virus scanner, vulnerability protector, and spam tagger. It supports the Postfix, Sendmail, Exim, Qmail, and ZMailer MTAs, and the Sophos, McAfee, F-Prot, F-Secure, CommandAV, InoculateIT, Inoculan, eTrust, Kaspersky, Nod32, AntiVir, BitDefender, RAV, Panda, DrWeb, ClamAV, and other anti-virus scanners. It uses SpamAssassin for highly successful spam identification, and is designed to handle denial of service attacks. It will detect password-protected zip files and apply filename checking to their contents. It is very easy to install, requires no changes at all to your sendmail.cf file, is designed to be lightweight, and won't grind your mail system to a halt with its load. It can be integrated into any email system, regardless of the software in use.
Changes:
Among other changes, this release included improvements to the phishing net, improved ZMailer support, support for RAR3 archives, and the removal of multiple Subject: lines.

a front runner

a front runner 01/28/2004 11:21 AM
So we have a front runner -- a great Senator with an extraordinary career of service. He's found the message -- a "positive" campaign "against special interests." (In the great tradition of Walt Disney creativity, it is a message that builds upon the culture around him. See, e.g. Edwards, Dean). And while I have no doubt the Senator would make a far better president than the current, I worry whether the message ("against special interests") will ring true with a man who has been in DC for so long. This was the part that came naturally to Dean, and even Edwards. When Edwards describes "the way Washington works," it's like a doctor describing the spread of a virus. But that will be a hard sell for this powerful, if consistently right, senator from Massachusetts. And as for fighting "special interests": As far as the copyright debate goes, the Senator seems to have heard only from the special interests. His technology discussion twice mentions copyright, only to urge even more IP extremism. And while there's a vague tilt to "WiFi", there doesn't seem to be anything else to signal the Senator has even seen the other side. E.g.
"...THR: The RIAA recently filed suit against several hundred file sharers. How far should copyright holders be allowed to go to protect their products? And do you think that file sharers should be held liable? Kerry: I think any kind of mass file sharing that goes beyond the normal college-dorm, room-to-room, person-to-person, friend-to-friend kind of sharing is a violation of the law. I believe in copyright. I think we would have complete disorder in the marketplace if you don't enforce copyright. Copyright is the way you create order out of chaos in the marketplace. Otherwise, you diminish the value of intellectual property and artistic property, and you wind up not enforcing the rules by which people are compensated for their work. I think the U.S. has been very lax in dealing with China and other countries on intellectual property regulations, and I have long argued that we ought to be enforcing those measures very, very strictly. Now, I have worked hard with the industry to try to find some ways to create an appropriate technology that allows people to share. The problem, obviously, in a digital world, is that one tap of a button on a Web site and you can transmit to millions of people a perfect copy. So I think we have to find a technological fix, and frankly, it has been economic self-interest that has prevented people at arriving at an appropriate compromise..."
I've never spoken to a Kerry-ite (except his wife whom I used to campaign with when I was chairman of the Teenage Republicans and she was married to the late-Senator Heinz). So I'd love to be proven wrong about this. Are there pointers to stuff that demonstrates a more charitable read?

Disney WWII-era propaganda An interview with Dave Bossert, the producer of a limite d-edition two-DVD set of propaganda films produced by the Disney animation studio between 1941 and 1946--many of these shorts, including Donald Duck's Der Fuehrer's Face, were previously available only as nth-generation bootlegs because of their stereotypes and politically sensitive subject matter. (Also included in the collection is the previously extremely rare feature-length 1943 animated film Victory Through Air Power, designed to convince the American public that the only way to win the war was investment in long-range bombers.) I've been building up my distance lately as marathon day (or M-day) draws closer. Last Sunday I had a beautiful 10 miler out to the ocean and back, which you can see here on my map of my running route. I'll keep adding to this as my weekend runs lengthen. For my 20 miler, I'm thinking about going out to Siasconset, around to Polpis and back home. And maybe if I go totally insane, I'll run out to Great Point and back. But that seems unlikely.
