Shortened PC refresh cycle has its
advantages
06/27/2004 10:05 AM“Many companies have foregone the traditional three-year
turnaround for desktops and laptops in favour of four- and even
five-year cycles. But at Tuesday’s CIO Canada Frankly Speaking
seminar, hosted by IT World Canada Inc., parent company of
ITWorldCanada.com and publisher of CIO Canada, Deloitte Canada CIO
Malcolm Campbell said his firm has crunched its own numbers and gone
against the perceived wisdom deciding on a two-year refresh
cycle.”

03/20/2003 01:05 PMLindows is a Linux-based operating system that promises to make using
Linux as easy as Windows. Indeed, its name suggests a combination of
Linux and Windows -- but what exactly is this distribution that has
found its way onto Wal-Mart shelves? Is it the next big thing or just
good marketing?

Can't Use The Name Lindows? How About

02/17/2004 03:41 PMMichael Robertson is not known for backing down when challenged. In
fact, his specialty seems to be taking controversy and turning it to
his advantage for the publicity. Thus, it should be no surprise to
hear that when told he can no longer use the Lindows name in certain
European countries, he'd
change the
offering name to Lin---s instead (pronounced LinDash). No matter
how much of a cheap publicity stunt it is, you have to admit that the
hangman graphic on the
Lin---s.com site (yes, they got the domain) showing all the crossed
off letters not needed to fill in the missing letters is somewhat
amusing.

Lindows to Change Name
04/09/2004 04:05 PMLindows.com - Michael's
Minutes: Name Change: Lindows is changing their name because
they're sick of getting sued. This is the right way to go. Far be it
for me to defend Redmond, but the name was an obvious attempt to
capitalize on Microsoft's market recognition. Besides, if your
product is good enough, it should stand on its own. This gives them
time and capital to fight other battles.

attempt at using the

ed on Linspire as their new name. Of course, in the end, they'll
probably privately thank Microsoft for giving them so much publicity
to get their name out there. Yet another case where trying to shut
something down probably gave it a lot more attention.

Microsoft Now Owns Lindows
Microsoft Now Owns Lindows
07/19/2004 01:16 PMWell after a lengthy an often
childis
h (on
both
sides) battle over the name Lindows, Microsoft has finally
realized that every time they try to beat Michael Robertson in court,
they're just giving him more free publicity. This is, of course,
exactly what he wanted. So, to just settle the damn thing once and
for all,
Microsoft has bought out the Lindows name for $20 million.
Of course, this works out great for Lindows... er... Linspire, as
well. They basically get a $20 million investment with no dilution or
strings attached -- plus a bit more publicity due to this deal.
