PPCSG.com visit to the headquarters of Taiwanese manufacturer MiTAC, a rising star of sorts in the world of Pocket PCs and Smartphones. An interview with MiTAC's PR manager reveals that they're planning to introduce four new Smartphones every quarter and two new Pocket PCs each year. PPCSG.com also got a sneak peak at two of new Pocket PCs planned, the Mio 558, which and they also got a sneak peak at two of the with a sneak peak at the Mio 339, which comes with a built-in digital camera with flash that can also record video clips, and the Mio 558 (pictured at right), which has a 400MHz processor, built-in WiFi and Bluetooth, software for making Voice over IP phone calls from a WiFi hotspot, and what looks like a port for plugging in USB peripherals like a keyboard or a mouse. MiTAC is saying that they'll be introducing no fewer than TEN cellphones running on Microsoft's Smartphone operating system next year (one of those phones, the MiTAC Mio 8390, is pictured at right). Four of the models were shown off at a trade show in Taiwan recently and all were clamshells with built-in digital cameras. OK, an initial implementation of my preview required functionality is complete.  Other than requiring a preview, most of you should not see any different behavior.  I've also relaxed my spam throttle to allow three comments - this allows the first to go through and two warnings before someone is temporarily shut down.

Now I plan to watch and see what action is warranted next.

IGN has posted a "first look" at the upcoming Xbox/PC title Star Wars: Republic Commando. The first-person shooter is being described as a bridge between Episode II and Episode III. If you've been following the search engine wars, the latest craze the kids are into these days is providing thumbnails of the web sites that return in search results. Google, however, sticking to the 'less is more' approach, doesn't have this feature. Chu Yeow points us to a Firefox extension that changes all of that.

What is it?
A Mozilla Firefox 0.9+ browser extension that inserts preview images (thumbnails) of web sites, Amazon products and stock charts into the Google search results page.

It sounds like one of those things that would be very slow, but I was suprised to find that the extension doesn't seem to slow the rendering of the search page down at all. It contacts a service on the web to get the thumbnails rather than trying to generate them on the fly. Very cool.
