Integrating DreamWeaver and PHP
Integrating DreamWeaver and PHP
02/17/2003 08:07 AMIntegrating DreamWeaver and PHP
Since this came out a week ago (I feel so behind!), I suspect a lot of
you have seen this but for those that haven't, here's a good article
on DreamWeaver and PHP:
... but MX finally offered a simple tool for rapidly building
database-driven sites using two widely-supported open source
technologies: PHP and MySQL.
Unfortunately, if you've used Dreamweaver MX to build ASP, ColdFusion,
or JSP sites, you'll notice that the program's PHP offerings fall a
bit short. Some standard features, such as password-protecting web
pages, or options for formatting dates and numbers, are missing from
Dreamweaver's PHP server model. To add insult to injury, if you want
to get some of that missing functionality, you'll have to shell out
$99 for Macromedia's Developer Resource Kit Volume 2--an add-on that
also includes new tools for other Macromedia products such as Flash,
Fireworks, and ColdFusion MX.
But there's no need to settle for less, or shell out money for
features that should have come with the program. With a little time
spent browsing the web, you'll be able to bring Dreamweaver's PHP
support up to speed, for free. [_Go_] (emphasis mine)
Note: I'm not a DreamWeaver fan or user as the UI gives me hives so I
can't comment in detail on it but it seems right.

Integrating VOIP, Wi-Fi, and Cell
11/11/2003 01:11 AMJim Louderback writes about Intel's experiments and hurdles in merging
VOIP, Wi-Fi, and cellular communications in a single device: Problems
abound, which Intel's researchers are working on solving, including
when and how you hand a call off from cell to Wi-Fi as networks become
available. Another issue is where handoffs happen: the corporate
switch? the cell provider's switch?...

Integrating Annoyance Filter and KMail
10/30/2003 11:59 PMIn our previous article we configured spam-fighting software Annoyance
Filter. To put it to work we need to integrate it with an e-mail
client. We'll use KMail, but the same method of integrating Annoyance
Filter should work with other e-mail clients, including Mozilla
Thunderbird, Sylpheed, and Mutt.

Integrating Reading and Writing of

and Heather Brownhttp://jodi
.ecs.soton.ac.uk/Articles/v05/i01/Brown/AbstractComputer users have become accustomed
to the writing of documents being regarded as a separate activity from
the reading of documents. We believe that this division is unnecessary
and limits the effectiveness of virtually every computer user. It is
time for a rethink of underlying concepts. A key concept for
integrating reading with writing is a general mechanism for
annotation. This general mechanism can be combined with hyperlinking
to create a single unifying super-concept that provides a base for
integrating reading and writing. The paper explains the underlying
ideas, and describes the results of a small experiment that supported
the viability of the super-concept. We believe that the super-concept
might possibly provide the foundations for a revolution in thinking
about documents, which would benefit everyone. This will be added to
Academic Resources
2004 Internet MiniGuide.

Integrating QT Designer and the GNU
Build System with KDevelop
12/04/2003 02:22 PMRecently, I wrote about putting QT Designer and the GNU Build System
to good use. With QT Designer, however, there still remained the need
to use the command line to generate the Makefile file, and there was
no configure script, which makes porting the application to other
platforms more difficult. You would have to apply the GNU Build System
principals to the package manually after the fact. The KDevelop
integrated development environment (IDE) can help with that task by
managing the GNU Build System for you. KDevelop does all the
configuring, compiling, and linking for you. This article illustrates
how you can design an application in QT Designer and have KDevelop
maintain the code and the GNU Build System. You cannot exert much
control over the GNU Build System without resorting to manually
editing files from the command line, but KDevelop does a more than
adequate job, so there should be no need to do so.
