Future'
02/17/2004 11:35 AM

The Philadelphia School District's campaign to reform its public high schools recently took a leap forward. In conjunction with Microsoft Corp., the district is planning the construction of a new "high-tech" high school in West Philadelphia as part of its "Secondary Education Movement." The project, dubbed "School of the Future," calls for an 800- student facility to be built on about seven and a half acres of land in West Fairmount Park. The parcel lies adjacent to Girard Avenue and is bordered by Parkside Avenue and 34th Street.

Microsoft has improved its products and done a better job of working with its customers this year compared with previous years -- at least that's what customers perceive, according to new research. Overall, the company has earned better marks with IT administrators in several areas, including making an effort to understand customers better, and offering customers a better value for their money. Slightly fewer customers this year said they were looking at Linux as an alternative to Windows, compared with last year.

Money 2005: Microsoft Unveils Simplified
Approach to Financial Management and
Helps People Make Sense of Their Money
09/21/2004 08:41 AM
Marking the largest development effort for Microsoft(R) Money since the personal finance software was launched 13 years ago, Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) today announced Microsoft Money 2005 Premium, Deluxe, Standard and Small Business. Completely rebuilt to simplify daily financial tasks, Money 2005 is designed to answer the growing number of consumer requests for a simple solution that addresses the three primary areas of financial concern: tracking account balances, monitoring spending and paying bills. Consumers today have less time than ever to spend managing their finances, which has contributed to the number of American households banking online -- due to its convenience and efficiency -- reaching nearly 33 million.(1) Money 2005 builds on this trend by helping people access all their accounts in one place and providing automated tools that reduce or eliminate the manual entry required by traditional personal finance software.

FrontPage Add-ins in C#
08/02/2004 01:10 AM
Similar to macros but more powerful, add-ins allow you to extend the built-in functionality of Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003. You can create COM add-ins in Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 or Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0, or you can create managed add-ins in any of the languages that use the Microsoft .NET Framework, such as Microsoft Visual Basic .NET or Microsoft Visual C# .NET. When you create managed add-ins for FrontPage2003, you can use the tools, classes, and programming languages that are part of the Microsoft .NET Framework. The MSDN article "Creating Managed FrontPage Add-ins in C#" (see the Related Resources box on this page) shows you how to create a managed add-in for FrontPage in C# and assumes a general knowledge of the .NET Framework and a functional knowledge of the C# programming language. The article also explains what you need to know to create your own managed add-ins for FrontPage and provides extensive resources for more information.

While trying to beat a Visual Studio web project into working yesterday, I did a little network sniffing to find out what FrontPage and Visual Studio actually do to make things work. I'd always thought it was WebDAV that made them go, but in fact, VTI created their own protocol before WebDAV came on the scene. Read on to find out more than you ever cared to know about FrontPage Server Extensions (This entry is categorized as Total Geek — you've been warned).
