hope that ALL Google products features such a thing.
Since I've recently switched to Moveable Type - I've gone backwards
in my "ease-of-authoring" experience. Does ecto work on a PC? Are
there other alternatives that can get me WYSIWYG editing?
And that includes the ability to simply copy text w/links and
paste. This is really hassling me and slowing up mky blogging
process.

Google Blogger Comment Rant
Google Blogger Comment Rant
05/15/2004 09:38 PM
Just now I found out that users commenters to get a Google Blogger
account before
they can post comments to blogs hosted by Google Blogger.
This makes no sense.I wouldn't mind if they just required the
commenter
to register themselves and made creation of a blog optional.
Yes, one could
just create one and ignore it but it's irritating to be forced into
creating and abandoning something
like a blog just so I can post comments.
The right way to grow
membership is by increasing the quality
of service for members (i.e. convenience), not by telling blog
readers to either join
or go away. Maybe Evan
or Jason can
explain why.
Update:
It turns out that this was caused by a preference setting.
Now it makes sense
although I sure hope this was not the default setting. Evan
and Jason, nevermind.

21-year-old essay on copyright just as
fresh today
05/04/2004 05:14 AMLuís sez: "Barrington Bayley has a *very* interesting article
written in the early 1980s about the ethics and the convention of
copyright. It's also worth pointing out that Bayley is one of the
great unheralded geniuses in the field of literary science fiction."
On the premise that graphic reproduction will eventually go the way
of sound reproduction, i.e. it will become easy and cheap and
available to all, the same is due to happen to literary copyright.
It's a-coming, boys! You'd better get used to it!
...Yes, there is always going to be a living for writers. The
consequence of the above is that a book, whether incarnated in ink and
paper, laser disk, silicon, gallium arsenide, memory bubbles, or War
and Peace encoded in DNA, will cost more than the blank on which it is
inscribed, but not so much more that it would be worth your while to
borrow a copy and duplicate it. Whatever deal authors and publishers
make with one another will have to take cognisance of that. I expect
authors will still be able to demand royalties. Whether an author will
be able to become stinking rich, as a few now can, I don't know. What
does it matter? It isn't necessary to the continuance of civilisation.
Luís adds, "This over twenty years ago."

Boston-area bank suggestion? (Bank of
America is not dog-friendly)
06/22/2005 02:23 AMMy bank has been purchased, for about the fifth time.
Currently it is called "Bank of America." None of the previous
changes of ownership or name bothered me but this time the new color
scheme came with "no dogs allowed" signs in the front of every branch
office. I'm not sure that I can stomach 0.2% interest if I can't
have a dog at my side to provide some comfort as inflation and
corporate looters erode my turbine-powered helicopter fund.
Anyone have a suggestion for a dog-friendly bank in the Boston
area?

wants to convince a customer to sign on the dotted line for a big
chunk of money had better have worked up a convincing financial model
showing how the customer is going to reduce expenses or increase
revenues by an amount that’s several times what they’re being
asked to pay. The same kind of dynamic applies between a line manager
launching a project and the corner office; and between senior
management and Boards of Directors. These days, people don’t want to
hear about synergies and intangibles and brand leverage, they want
capital-R, capital-O, capital-I, and they want it fast. So, is ROI
potential useful in predicting the success of new technologies?...
