Not in Spain

Not in Spain 04/21/2004 07:45 PM
So, apparently, there's a band... from America... named Barcelona. They're no longer together, but when they were crankin' out the tunes, they recorded "I Have The Password To Your Shell Account." Wow. That's pretty darn geeky. Their style totally reminds me of another semi-favorite of mine, FreezePop. Props to a new friend, Scott, for pointing the way. Actually, I don't know if I can call him a friend yet, but I'm totally in love with his Special Edition LP set of The Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack. He must trust me, as he lent me one of his Barcelona CDs. Or did he? Because, to my knowledge, Lent is over....

AT&T Wireless To Introduce The How Many
Bars Do You Have Man
04/23/2004 04:27 PM
Now that AT&T Wireless is trying to bounce back from all the troubles they've been having, they've decided to steal a page from competitor Verizon Wireless. While they promise that they've fixed a lot of the problems that caused them problems and have very publicly apologized, they're also starting up a marketing campaign that will try to get the phrase "How many bars do you have?" as famous as "Can you hear me now?" I can just imagine the thought process. AT&T Wireless execs standing in a bunch of mobile phone users listening to what they're saying, knowing they can't use "Can you hear me now?" Maybe it's just me, but "How many bars do you have?" just isn't that convincing.

MTV Networks plans to start a music downloading service this year that will offer subscription or single purchases through MTV.com. MTV Networks Group President Van Toffler said at a press conference in New York on Wednesday that the service won't use the MTV name. He declined to comment on the name or start date. Separately, MTV.com will unveil a new site called MTV Overdrive on April 25 that will feature music videos, movie clips, segments from MTV News and excerpts from MTV shows such as "Punk'd." MTV Overdrive is a means for its parent company, New York-based Viacom, "to capture new money going into new media," Toffler said. Users will see 15-second commercials for products interspersed throughout the video clips without the option to skip commercials.

Help introduce charities to free

Help introduce charities to free
software
12/20/2003 03:56 AM
When I recently searched for organisations that were trying to help introduce charities to free software, and I found practically no information. I find this particularly surprising, as charities are, in many ways, the most worthy organisations to use free software. If you can go to a charity and propose a solution that is more stable and secure, free from vendor lock-in, and free to use and maintain, you can help the organization plough the savings into the work it is there to do.
